Hi
I was wondering does anyone apply for an extension for PGWP due to COVID-19 layoffs and the request has been accepted.
I have an one year permit which is going to expire on January and I lost lots of hours due to layoff (about 4 months), and wondering whether applying for extension for PGWP due to these unwanted situation could be accepted by IRCC or not.

No changes to the rules unfortunately.

IRCC has announced a number of exceptions due to COVID-19. However extensions of PGWPs is not one of these exceptions at this time. If you want to continue working after your PGWP expires, then you need to meet one of the criteria that allows you to do so (e.g. employer obtains an approved LMIA so that you can switch to a closed work permit, you receive a nomination through a PNP program so that you qualify for a BOWP, you are selected through Express Entry and qualify for a BOWP).

Unfortunately there is a risk when you only get a 1 year a PGWP. Many things can happen from bad economy, family emergency, your own illness, etc.

Minister Medicinio announced that there will be some plans for PGWP holders affected by COVID-19 to restore their permit. But they haven’t declared since when it’s gonna be effective. Anyways, that’s a good news.

That's awesome. Even for those outside Canada?

Good day folks,

I saw an ongoing petition for PGWP extension in HOC.
What do you folks think, 6 months of PGWP extension would be granted for folks who were holding PGWP on March2019.?
