What will happen if we can't complete at least 50% of the course in Canada ?

So I have to start the program this September only.
You can still withdraw right ? (not the best option but ..)

For me, all my problems will be solved if they allow us to apply for PGWP even if we completed the 100% of the course online. (what if they are planing to do that but don't wanna spread the news about it atm ;) ? )

How long is the duration of your studies?

Yes same here...if they allow us to apply for PGWP even if we do more than 50% of the course online, then, I'll have no problems too.

But that'll mean we won't be able to go there at all, and will have to do most of the program from home. Sounds a bit weird.

I'm not being negative or pessimistic - even I want to think positive. I'm just being realistic seeing what's happening in the world due to Covid.

British Columbia government has said that social distancing measures will continue for at least one year in BC. Given this, I don't know how realistic it is to expect the University in BC to go back to in-class mode by January beginning.

And most master's programs are for 1 year or between 1 and 2 years. So if we are starting such a program by spending so much (so many lakhs Indian rupees), we need some kind of clarity about what IRCC has in mind about online classes.

They should be clear if they think " online is non-essential ", and should put that up on the website, instead of denying boarding/entry after we have spent so much already for flight ticket, housing, tuition, etc. etc.

Plus seeing the steps taken by IRCC, in the latest news release as well, they are doing all that they can to ensure that we can study from home without having to enter the country.

It's perfectly understandable that they don't want to increase the risk inside the country by allowing foreign students to enter. CBSA logic is fair and correct from their viewpoint - if we can study online from home, then there's no mandatory / essential reason to enter the country. We can very well study from home without entering Canada and without increasing the risk.

The issue is IRCC needs to be clear in putting this point up on their website. This " exempted before March 18 " thing that they have put up right now, is not accurate going by what CBSA is saying.

Even if you're exempted (that is, have permit approved before 18th), you're still being denied entry due to online classes being NON ESSENTIAL. That needs to be put up on the website. That's all I request from them.

I would like to understand more about this new IRCC rule, there's a lot of question which I hope IRCC can answer.

There're 2 stages in the new visa application. if one passes the first application and starts lectures online and I bet he/she would have paid for the tuition fees. What if the second approval is refused? What happens to the tuition... When I checked the IRCC website it states "It is important for prospective students to note that commencing their studies online from abroad following approval-in-principle of a study permit application is not a guarantee that they will receive full approval of their study permit application, or be authorized to pursue their studies in Canada. It is still possible that an applicant could receive a negative final decision on their study permit based on factors such as inadmissibility for criminality or security reasons, and the inability to predict how the COVID-19 situation and any associated travel restrictions will evolve." What do you think? is this a good move or it's an expensive risk?.

I have a lengthy response for this questions in this thread please do check. With regards to tuition and refunds these questions should be directed to your college/uni. My college said no refund during or after online classes and they will update FAQ in response to these new rules.

I feel many universities should clarify if they are even going to shift the jan intake online before the Sept intake begins which will give us a clear view ..it will be heartbreaking if they shift the entire course online but this help us to atleast cancel our application until things become normal

I'm also waiting, submitted the biometrics on last Friday.

Btw there was a webinar conducted by my college. There they said even though the most of the fall course are online, students should be able to travel to canada at the end of the first semester (for the two semester courses, graduate certificate and etc) stating that their travel is essential because of the PGWP requirement (has to do 50% in canada to qualify for PGWP), given the borders are open for international students.

They said we can put that reason as to justify why our travel is essential, also college will issue letters confirming that.
