I want to defer my intake due to the pandemic. Can I apply to extend my visa that's expiring in November?

I got informed around 2nd week of January that my visa application was approved because of which I couldn't join Jan intake. When I checked the date, the visa started from October 2019 and it expires in November. Because of the pandemic, ,my course was deferred to May intake. Now it's been deferred to September intake. But I want to join in 2021 since the end of the pandemic is uncertain. Is it possible for me to extend my visa in this scenario?

Many people have been denied boarding for online classes. Even colleges like Georgian, University od Saskatchewan, Concordia University have mentioned this on their website under Covid section. But government hasn't mentioned it explicitly. I can understand your confusion. I have even confirmed the same from CBSA..

Hi !!! @Dafaqisgoingon , I guess that's right...even I am getting the feeling that online classes may be considered " non essential " even if our permit is approved before March 18.

But as you said, the problem is that the IRCC website has not mentioned clearly that " even among those with approval before March 18, the online nature of classes may prevent entry ".

I'd request for your advice on the following please:

1. Is air India still denying boarding to people with online classes? They denied boarding in June, but even now, it's only air India that flies - no other airline flies from india.

2. Since we have some cases of people being allowed into Canada even with online classes, can you please please post what CBSA told you, please? A link of what they have said will be extremely reassuring...

Thanks a ton!

AI Still denying boarding.

CBSA said you need a very strong reason to come here. You can't come if classes are online. You can call them yourself. Get the number from their site. Try 4-5 times because their answer changes everytime. I assume that's because no concrete policy is in place....

Thanks a lot for your reply!

Hmm...I guess very strong reason means they consider online classes to be " non essential " and therefore denying entry into the country.

The program delivery page on IRCC website is also not updated with what is essential for international students yet...

The issue is when if assuming Canada allows entry ( whigh they are allowing to some students from South Korea, Pakidtan, etc), we Indians are at the mercy of air India.

No other airline operates from India. I still don't understand how can the government allow this monopoly of air India - if air India is flying & allowing commercial lay people to book, why not open up schedules flights for other airlines also? At least to a limited extent...
