International Students (approved before 18) need an 'essential' reason to travel to Canada.

So here is the FAQ provided by High Commission of Canada, New Delhi. Under the temporary resident- international student it puts forward a second requirement. But on official website, it isn't mentioned.

Hi! I think it's better to go by official IRCC website only. That doesn't have this 2and requirement right? So this may not apply to those with approval before March 18...?

A friend was told about not traveling to Canada by CBSA if classes are online. I recommend the ones who have Booked their tickets to confirm it themselves by calling CBSA. This applies to first time fliers. Verify it again if anyone needs to and reply back if some other info is received.

You are confusing two very different things here. The rules for crossing Canada/US border are different from the rules of traveling to Canada by air.

If you got your permit before March 18th or are exempt under another condition you can travel by air and you will be allowed in, the 'leaked' guidelines are about US/Canada land crossing nothing to do with you.

You just need a plan to self isolate for 14 days and be healthy to travel.

Maybe they will. Highly disappointed personally as a student waiting to go for Fall as most classes are being online. Few students will be able if they can prove their in person classes have started.

Not sure what you are referring to in this letter,if your permit was approved before March 18 you can travel and will be allowed into Canada, the little disclaimer there is the usual disclaimer about it being up to the officer to make the decision to let you in, this has always been the case even before Covid, so don't take that too literally.

Now some airlines don't understand the rules and that is an issue so its important to confirm with them if they will let you board.

When you go to their quarantine act, non discretionary or non essential purposes does not pertain to study. It pertains to tourism, recreation and entertainment. This is duly provided under the website too. Study is an essential travel. Thus, international students can enter Canada. If they do this, the fault lies with the airline not the border agency.

That is correct as of right now, study is considered essential.
I guess there are some rumors going around that online study will be considered non essential & you wont be able to travel even if you got the permit before 18th March but there is no such official confirmation now.

Yes, i am aware about that OIC which says International students approved before 18 march are allowed, but this now requirement is causing uncertainty. Anyways, i hope it works out for everyone.
