Gettin New SIN Number

SIN application update:

I applied at the end of April (application number in the 13,000 range), nothing received on my mailbox yet.

I called yesterday early morning (wait time was about 5 minutes), and was informed that my SIN wasn't yet generated. The officer also informed me that she can't tell if my application was rejected or if it was still under processing, and suggested to check back later next week (until the application is well beyond official processing time of 4 weeks).

I sent multiple documents for my proof of address (mobile plan, letters from different banks).

2. Secondary document - Passport front and back
3. Proof of address - Hydro bill of my brother's home where I'm staying right now
And while specifying the mailing address too, I added my brother's name in the "In care of" section.

Could you guys please confirm based on your experience if this looks fine.

Yes this seems to be correct docs which you submitted. Similar docs were submitted by other fellow applicants in the forum . Hope u should be getting SIN soon.

R u PR or under Work permit ??

For PR applications SIN number is diff and they processing it faster.

Oh sad !! I seen some members with 36000 series got sin and they are PR. Ur case there may be some red flag tats y it was not yet processed. U should get some kind of letter soon. First time I applied 6th March and rejected letter came to me by 29 th March. So wait for it to come. Mean while service Canada may open.

Hi.. though i have read above posts and have gotten an idea but still wanted to confirm. I hv landed in Toronto yesterday and wanted to apply for SIN online. On reading about it on website the proof of address can be for someone else right?? Coz i am staying at an airbnb and cnt hve my own place till i dont have a job which ofcourse would land after SIN??

So just to clarify on the address proof part - it was your brothers address with your name ?

No official notes. But some fb forum members say there will be some service Canada will open soon with only urgent services. Must wait for official release of which service Canada location will open.

No it's the hydro bill in my brother's name with his address where I'm currently staying. I saw a few posts where it worked out, hope it works out for me too.

13 May - SIN created by Service Canada
14 May - Dispatched
22 May - SIN received in the Mail (Toronto)
