Physical Presence Calculator not matching with my working out...

I have a question about eligibility for Canadian citizenship and hoped someone may be able to shed some light on it?

According to the physical presence calculator on the Canadian government’s website my total presence in Canada will be 875 days from 4th May 2020.

Therefore 1095 – 875 = 220 days until eligible. (1095 is the minimum number of days required to be eligible for citizenship as I'm sure many of you know.)

220 days is about 8 months which means I should be eligible to apply around January 2021. BUT the physical presence calculator is telling me I am not eligible until 2nd October 2021.

Does anyone know why this may be?

Thanks in advance!

Was all your time in Canada spent as PR or was there some time as visitor/worker before you became PR?

Impossible to say unless you provide your days and dates. Based on what you are saying, it sounds like some of your residency days may have been accumulated a while ago, so they are dropping off as time moves forward.

Hi Devnill,

I had a IEC visa for the first three years that I was here. Then PR and for a while after becoming a PR I went away for about 18 months travelling and was back in the UK for a while.

Hi Scylla,
Thanks for your reply.

So what your saying is as time moves forward I will loose temporary residence days from the beginning of my working out? Because it only takes into account a period of five years before I submit my application? So for example if I was to submit in January the five years before that date will include the period that I was away from Canada travelling, and so therefore won't have enough days. So by October 2021 I will have enough days as long as I stay in Canada until October 2021?

Yes - that's right. Only the previous five years are counted. Yes - this means you need to stay until October 2021 and can apply then (assuming you don't leave Canada at all).

Thank you Scylla,

That now makes sense! Awesome!
