Hello,

I am currently on an open work permit and going through the process of my LMIA. My employer already posted multiple ads which got some resumes from it. Now they cannot take any interviews due to covid-19. How do they show that recruitment efforts were made and still they couldn’t find someone suitable?

please let me know

Thank you

They can hold interviews remotely (e.g. via skype, zoom, etc.). If for some reason they cannot hold interviews remotely, then it sounds to me like they will have to wait until the COVID-19 situation is over before they will be able to demonstrate appropriate recruitment efforts.

It all depends , I had an interview via zoom which then had to be a phone interview because zoom.was no good in end the final Interviews got cancelled because they were unable to give any a start date due to covid and stopped the recruitment. So a lmia in a pist you are already at is more of an advantage than trying to hire a candian citizen .

But if In the lmia application they state this as a reason for not able to hire anyone new or conduct any interviews is that a valid reason?

Yes it will needed to be supported like what you bring to the role that includes experience creditionals and the fact you are already working for them when I went for my Interview I was the only international student and 16 candian citizens. I was hired out of all of them and none of them were offered the second the position. So it is doable

This is not a valid reason. There is nothing stopping them from conducting interviews / hiring someone.

There are plenty of tools that can be used apart from Zoom.

I honestly would.go through with the lmia. Look into lmia for pr as long as you are getting the medium wage you can apply for lmia for pr which costs nothing.

Your right but this is also very limited. The only options everyone is using is zoom that's it.
It's simply not true to say that everyone is using Zoom. There are plenty of other options.

I've been working from home full time for almost two months now and am on conference calls all day. Haven't used Zoom once. No one in my company uses Zoom for work purposes. And company I work for has close to 100K employees.

An employer cannot use Zoom as an excuse for not being able to conduct interviews. They can use skype, just do it over the phone and forget about video conferencing, there are many, many options.

That's your company which is fair enough what the discussion is about the lmia, we have advertised 2 positions and non have been filled due to no candidate meeting requirements so an lmia dosent soly depend that they can't find candian citizen it is based on other things. That's what the question is . I agree that the unemployment is high however international people have the same chance of getting a lmia just like a candian citizen has with jobs.

Your response has nothing to do with the original post and my responses.

Please read through the original post and my responses. The question that was asked is whether an employer can use the "I can't interview candidates due to COVID-19" as a reason to say that no suitable candidate could be found. I said no - which is the correct answer since there are plenty of ways an interview can be held. If you re-read the original post, you'll see other candidates have applied for the job. The question is whether the employer can avoid interviewing them due to COVID-19 and use COVID-19 as an excuse to get the LMIA approved. The answer is still no.
