In Canada as a Tourist - Want to Immigrate

Hi! I'm a 24 year old Filipino currently in B.C. as a tourist with a multiple entry visa from the Philippines and wanting to immigrate. I just want to know if there are faster ways to get a work visa other than the express entry application? I already did my CELPIP exam and I have a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, 2 years work experience in call center industry. I'm staying with a relative who is a Canadian Citizen and has been here for 30+ years and runs a cleaning business by herself.

I have not started my express entry application because i'm waiting for my Transcript of Record from back home to get evaluated as part of the requirements, but that was put on hold because of the coronavirus so i'm wondering if there's anything else I can do. Would start at calculating your anticipated CRS score. Canada is accepting over 470 these days. Getting a work permit or immigrating while in Canada as a visitor is not easy and requires probably 6 months without working. Your family member would need to prove that there was nobody else in Canada wanting and able to do the cleaning job. Given the likely higher unemployment after covid that may be extremely hard to show. Just with a brief overview you likely don’t have enough degrees or enough work experience to qualify for many programs. Will partially depend on what kind of IT skills you have and whether you had IT experience at the call centre and what kind. Not quite sure why you didn’t research the various immigration programs when you came to visit your family. You may have realized this is much harder than you think and you’ll be out of work for some time if you remain in Canada. Your best bet would be to return to the Philippines and gain more IT experience and do another degree.

Hi. Pinoy here too on Tourist Visa since Jan 2019. Visiting my mom here. As far as I know, its hard to get work permit or even find a job if youre not PR. I even have a strong backer here but still ayaw pa din tanggapin kasi visitor palang daw. I applied in Express Entry (Im in ON btw) got a nomination from Alberta and currently processing the PR Application. As for WES Evaluation, you cant do anything if you dont have the transcript from your school. If your Visitor Visa is expiring, apply for Visitor Record (Visitor Visa Extension) God bless and stay safe kabayan!

Realistically there's likely no way for you to be able to work in Canada within the next 4-6 months.

Fastest way would be to secure a job offer from an employer in Canada and for that employer to obtain an approved LMIA. You can then apply for a closed work permit tied to that specific employer. LMIAs typically take 4-6 months to be approved end to end. The work permit will take additional time.

I second Scylla. It will be hard for you to get an LMIA and a closed work permit.

If you are looking for Express Entry, I doubt you would get more than 441 points assuming you have an ECA for your bachelor's degree, CLB 10, a minimum of 3 years of work experience, and you are not older than 30. With the current trend, 441 is not enough to get an ITA but it does not hurt to create a profile and see if you get any NOIs from provinces for nomination. Good luck!

I'm on my 7th month here just applied for a tourist visa extension because my flight got cancelled because of the coronavirus. My initial plan was to go home and apply for a work visa from there but since the pandemic happened I am now stuck here waiting for the government's decision. I did not engage on any work or attend any educational institution. Though I have been trying to get interview from different companies that are looking for "Technical Support Representative" since that's where my work experience is, the interview would usually go well but they're hesitant with my immigration status. If you are looking for PR status, Express Entry is the fastest pathway provided you meet the eligibility criteria and you have a good enough score to receive an ITA. Your tourist visa does not offer you any benefits in this regard.

If you are looking for a temporary work visa, you will generally need a positive LMIA, although there are exceptions.

One of them is the Working Holiday program, but this is only open to citizens of certain countries. Check IRCC's website to see if the Philippines are on the list.

In general, IRCC's website has a very good overview about options open to you.

CLB stands for Canadian Language Benchmark and CLB 10 is equivalent to band 8.5 ish on the IELTS scale. Why do you have to be negative? If you don't have anything nice to say, just don't say it.

There are still jobs employers have trouble filling in. Though they may not be in abundance, it is harsh to jump into the conclusion that the OP would not be able to get an LMIA. I do agree with you on the job market part but it's better to not scare people off.

I think the easiest way would be for you to do even a 1 year program (study visa) and when you're on PGWP, hopefully you'll get a job that will support a BC PNP. If you have a relative here living with, that means you wont have living expenses-which is one of the greatest burdens for international students.

You need much more than your transcript. Are you sure there has been no more flights home? Why did you not change your flight and leave earlier on in March? Given your age and being unemployed getting a visitor status extension for another 6 months will be tough unless you have a large amount of savings in your name so you can support a good lifestyle in Canada without needing to work. Most employers are unwilling to go through the LMIA process due to the time and expense. It will cost the business $1000 and they may get approved or denied. Then the worker will need to try and get approved. That is a 4-6 month process and likely longer. Customer service jobs should be easily filled by Canadians. You really need to do more research. Staying in Canada for long periods of time also makes Canada concerned that you are trying to stay in Canada and not just a visitor.

Actually it is Incredibly hard to get a job as a doctor because getting licensed as a foreign trained physician has a low success rate and most have to repeat their training if they are lucky enough to get a spot. Nurses often need some further education or retraining and to pass licensing exams. Having a PhD in virology is rare and there are only so many jobs in Canada for people with these qualifications. Would not move without a job offer in that case as well.

I am also 24 years old with an IT background. My suggestion for you would be to do a Master's program in BC that qualifies for the Tech Pilot program where you directly are given BC PNP without a job offer. Only certain STEM programs qualify. Look it up and see if you qualify/can afford.
