Really don't appreciate the hate on a forum that is meant to facilitate immigration. Yes, some people do immigrate and drive taxis and some work for large organisations. Disrespecting any occupation is absolutely unfair, if a person earns his/her living then that makes him/her a respectable citizen.
Recent immigrants shouting "stop immigration"! Why? Cause you got in and don't want more competition?
Instead of criticizing and fighting please spend time upgrading your skills as a professional that actually might help you get employed. There are plenty of free courses available online from IVY league universities FREE of cost.
The impact of COVID-19 is GLOBAL (not just limited to Canada), companies will take months to recover from this period of financial depression. It doesn't matter where you are and what job you do the effect will be felt everywhere. The way to get out of this is to boost national economy. Can do that by eating local, holidaying nationally, promoting home brands etc.
Immigration does give a boost to the economy of Canada, even the Uber drivers pay taxes (apart from the initial investment they make). If the Canadian government feels it has reached a threshold then it will modify the process and make it like the USA.
We shall find out about the draws in the coming weeks but lets be positive here and not disrespect any individual.
Hoping for the best.
