Hey all,

Me and my common-law partner are looking to immigrate to Toronto (My boyfriend has a Canadian passport but has never lived in Canada). I have done some research, and looks like I am eligible for Express Entry via the Federal Skilled Worker program.

From my research it looks like I am eligible to immigrate to Canada and obtain a permanent residence both via the Express entry or via the Family Sponsorship option, since my partner is Canadian. From my research, having a common-law partner with a Canadian citizenship does not give me anymore points via the express entry. My question is, what would be the best immigration option from the two (mostly considering time and cost)?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all for your time :)

Probably family sponsorship.

Express Entry can be shorter, but there's a lot more paperwork you have to do (e.g. IELTS, employment letters, etc.). Note that to be selected for Express Entry, you need to have 470+ points right now. Correct, you will receive no additional points for having a Canadian common law partner.

To go the family sponsorship route, your boyfriend will have to provide very strong evidence that you plan to relocate to Canada once your visa is approved.
