Leaving Canada during processing Inland PR & OWP

Hi there everyone.
I have an OWP & inland PR app pending under the family class(sponsorship). Right now I have a Visitor Record that is valid for six months. The terms are that I can not work, study, and that I must hand it in to a CBSA officer before leaving Canada. My husband(a Canadian citizen) and I want to travel to see my family/go on a short vacation for about two weeks. We would be flying and returning to Canada together. I am a US citizen so no visa is required for re-entering Canada. However, I called Immigration and they said I am able to leave Canada but don't advise it. This is because it's up to the border officer whether or not he grants me re-entry into Canada. However, we would only be gone for two weeks and have followed all of the rules so I don't see why they would deny me entry. I'm wondering if anyone has advice? Has anyone had any similar experiences and had any issues re-entering Canada?

There is no guarantee you will be permitted to re-enter Canada. It's rare that a holder of an OWP wouldn't be permitted to re-enter, but it is a risk.

Ultimately, the question is for you and how much risk you're willing to take.

Thank you for your response. We are definitely thinking about the risk because we don't want to be separated. I don't have the OWP yet. It's estimated arrival date is March 12th. Right now I have a visitor record. We are debating whether it would be best to wait to travel to the US until I have received the OWP document.

I would wait until you have the OWP. If you leave without it and are denied reentry, your application is considered abandoned.
