Any one here applied recently for OCI to the Vancouver location?
I see they have removed the requirement for the original landing papers for spouse and applicant?
Is this really true?? or should I just send it anyway? Applying for my wife's OCI as a self indian citizen not on spouse based OCI

I applied online and submitted the application in person around one month back. I dont recollect them asking for landing docs. Just follow the checklist.

You should be good, unless there is any unforeseen situation, below are my timelines, I haven't received the OCI card yet which BLS will pick from High Commission and send it to me (I believe).

I went to apply for OCI at bls Montreal office. Out of some 20 documents required I submitted all of them as requested on their checklist.
They still managed to find one issue and refused to take my application.
My name on Indian passport have Maganbhai as middle name and canadian passport have M. as initial. And same format on my landing paper.

They need permission from Ottawa to accept my application. I found it absurd.
I told them even if wanted to add my father name on canadian passport it wouldn’t fit entirely. And i am sure this is not the first time this happened at bls Montreal but still they have no clue what should they do in those situations.

Is this one of their hassle technic to bring you back to their office?
Has anyone experienced this before?

Thank you. I submitted my application for OCI today and hopefully i will receive it in time. If not then i will get the one time visa few days prior to my flight. I will update the thread when i receive my OCI Card.

just wondering is anyone still in same boat? When should I expect my OCI Card.

I’m planning to travel India on 16th January, should I get OCI before 16th.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just walk-in, collect token and wait. I do not think you can book an appointment.

I will get my citizenship certificate tomorrow and I have a vacation plan starting 26th March for a week. I will get my canadian passport before that so no issues in traveling I think.

Congratulation for getting the Citizenship. As you are getting Canadian PP, you cannot use Indian PP for travel. You may also need visa if you are travelling to India which may be obtained on arrival guess.

See below text as read from the website of Consulate General of India, Toronto:
Even after acquiring Canadian citizenship, the Indian passport can be used to travel for 3 months from the day of getting the Canadian citizenship. The grace period is only for such cases where foreign citizenship has been acquired but a foreign passport is not available to the person. It is also mentioned that it is illegal to travel on an Indian passport, where a person has obtained a foreign passport.

Penalty will be charged if the passport is used after 3 months.
