Dear senior Members ,

My PR card expires on Nov 2015, currently I am in Australia , Have spent only 6 months in Canada so far but going back next month

I was Indian when PR card issued 3 years back , but getting Australian citizenship in 4 weeks.

Questions are
1.My Canada PR is still valid ? Do I need to get my PR card to reflect my new citizenship before I enter Canada again ?
2.Canada PR card got only one name , but in Australian citizenship I included my Father name is surname , will it be an issue ?

I emailed CIC Sydney here but no reply for last 4 weeks

Thanks

To answer the specific questions you have asked:

1) Yes - your PR card is still valid. No - you do not need to update it to reflect your new citizenship.
2) No - this won't be an issue.

Hi

Thanks for your answer

I understand the residency obligations to get another term but now my worry is current PR card says Indian national whereas I will have different passport when I go back

So the question is “ Can I travel back with same PR card ? “

You should be fine to travel back with the same PR card, but you should make a copy of your Indian passport before you surrender it as you WILL need this to prove RO at a later date. Of course if you are not surrendering your Indian passport just carry it with you so if any questions arise you have that available.

Hi rish_ind and sam_can,

Same situation here. Any updates on how the travel with Australian and Indian passport and arriving in Canada with PR card (which says nationality is Indian) went? Did either of you speak to CIC to update your new citizenship details with them?

Thank you in advance!

You have bigger issue with you undeclared second child. You should probably reapply as a whole family unless you plan on staying in NZ,

Hi Canuck,
Thanks for your reply

The undeclared second child (infant) had travelled with us when we landed first. Also i had informed cic a week before travel. It was a miss from my part. Having said that will apply under H&C for my second child and had talked with 3-4 lawyers independently and all have said the same that chances are there based on my case. If it does not work out then will return back to NZ.
But will you or any one please be able to answer on the PR card with indian nationality but later taking NZ citizenship will it be a problem ?
Thanks
Kunal

No as long as when you got the NZ was after you got your PR card. It will appear to be citizenship shopping. H&C may be quite difficult to get. Lawyers want you to hire them so often give an optimistic view of the situation. Your child will not have access to healthcare during the H&C process and may not be able to register in school. You should get emergency health coverage but will have to pay for routine care out of pocket.

If you informed them yet knew you and your other child had landing documents why did you travel without getting the documents for the other child? You did apply for an ETA for the infant which you knew was different than the rest of your family.
