Counting Working Hours

Hi,
I have recently completed 7 months of work under NOC B category! as a field technician. But as my contract is part time based I have added my hours so far from my bi-weekly pay cheques into a excel sheet with formulas to give me the approximate time left to apply. Also I recently did my IELTS TEST waiting on those results as well. Can anyone tell to see if I am on the correct path in terms of counting hours?

Your spreadsheet is just too confusing to work out. However, you must ensure that you do not attempt to average out weekly hours based on bi-weekly payslips. You can only count a maximum of 30 hours per ACTUAL week. So, if you worked 40 hours + 20 hours, that's actually only a total of 50 acceptable hours, not 60.

You spreadsheet is just too confusing to work out. However, you must ensure that you do not attempt to average out weekly hours based on bi-weekly payslips. You can only count a maximum of 30 hours per ACTUAL week. So, if you worked 40 hours + 20 hours, that's actually only a total of 50 acceptable hours, not 60.

Oh I see! But that’s why I used the corrected months in the end to average it out. Like I know the minimum is 30 hrs per week but given the nature of my work their are weeks I worked around 65 hrs. Also on my pay stab it say the total number of hours worked which does not include over time for pay raise I have around 960 hrs so far accounted for this month.
Also say around end of May 2020 when I feel I will complete an entire year of work experience and have more than 1560 hrs will the counting of hours matter considering I will eventually be more than the 1560 hrs benchmark...

As I said, you can't average. The maximum that IRCC will allow you to count per any physical week is 30 hours. Any excess is simply discarded.

One year of skilled work experience

Your experience must be at least:

• One year of full-time work
  • 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours), or
• equal amount in part-time hours, such as:
  • 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
  • 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)

For part-time work, you can work more or less than 15 hours/week as long as it adds up to 1,560 hours.

We don’t count any hours you work above 30 hours/week.

As said above, you're calculating incorrectly. You can't average.

This is how you calculate to determine when you have one year of work experience:

- Each week where you work 30 hours or more is counted as 1 week of experience. It doesn't matter if you work 30 hours or 60 hour or 90 hours. It's counted as 1 week only.
- For each week where you work less than 30 hours, add up the total number of weeks and then divide by 30.

Add the two numbers above together. When you have a total of 52 - you have 1 year of work experience.

If you have part time weeks of work, it's literally impossible for you to have one year of work experience by the end of May. You need to do the calculation correctly.

The 1560 is only one benchmark of two benchmarks you need to meet. You also need 52 weeks of full time work experience. Impossible for you to have this by end of May if you have part time weeks.

Also how will you count the hours every week if the company pays you on a bi-weekly base. Many people I spoke too told me if you add up all your hours until June or July 2020 it will be more than enough to have a year of experience.

First - IRCC doesn´t really care if your employer classifies you as full-time or part-time. They use their own definition, based on number of hours worked per week (that´s why it is mandatory to have that information in your letter of reference). If you work more than 30 hours per week, you will be classified as full-time by IRCC.

If you are full-time, you simply work 52 weeks. There is no need to count hours.

If you are paid bi-weekly and have no weekly records of hours worked per week, then "full time" is 60 hours per bi-weekly period, and you cannot count more than 60 hours.

If you worked 80 hours every bi-weekly pay period, then you are full-time and simply need to work 52 calendar weeks.
