H1b Stamping in India with CoPR

Hello Guys,

I have a situation where I am planning to go to Mumbai, India for my h1b stamping which will be a dropbox. And I have also received my CoPR few days ago. I still have plenty of time to land in Canada to activate my PR.

Now there is a question in DS160, "Are you a permanent resident of a country/region other than your country/region of origin (nationality) above?".

I am not sure whether to answers YES / NO.

Please help!

FWIW, CoPR doesn't automatically mean resident status in Canada.
Technically, one could be denied upon first landing for different reasons like proof of funds, misrepresentation etc.

You say No. You aren't a PR till you have completed your landing.

I don’t agree with this. The DS-160 needs to be accurately completed at the time of submission - and as long as OP hasn’t landed before s/he submits the DS-160, the answer is no.

it would be the same as the travel history section. At the time of submission, let’s say you haven’t travelled abroad , but you have a trip planned after submitting and before the interview. You cannot truthfully say that you have travelled on the form - you would be lying.


Likewise, if you say you’re a PR on the form, and then for whatever reason you don’t travel to Canada and don’t land, you have just lied on your DS-160. And that is a sure fire way to get your visa rejected.

You can always tell the truth in the interview - I wasn’t a PR at the time I submitted the DS -160, but now I am.
