THE OFFICER WILL REVIEW TO MAKE SURE ALL REQUESTED DOCS ARE SENT AND PROCEDURES HAVE BEEN FOLLOWED. IF HE/SHE FEELS THE NEED FOR CHAT LOG TRANSLATED IN ENGLISH/FRENCH, AT THAT POINT THEY WILL ASK FOR IT***

If you are submitting chat logs for use to prove your relationship, and if they are not in English or French, they will not be considered as evidence of the relationship. If you have insufficient other proof your application will either be refused for insufficient evidence, or you will receive an additional documents request.

The call centre told you this - you will not be penalized for submitting it not in English or French, correct, but you will need other proof as the non-English non-French documents will not count.

Again, this is painfully clear in the guide. All documents that are to be used for evidence of a relationship must be in English or French. If they are not, they are not counted.

You do need to translate your chats into ENGLISH OR FRENCH no matter the alphabet set you use. If you submit chatlogs that are written in Pinyin Chinese using the Roman (English) alphabet set, how is the visa officer to know that you are not chatting with a dishwasher salesman or your Didi driver?

The guide is painfully clear - all documents that are not in English or French must be translated if you wish them to be used for supporting value.

Hey Parminder thank you very much for sharing your info...i feel very much relieved and as for the other individual who gave his input...dont take it to heart and just ignore him. You didnt submit translation and your wife got the visa SO YOU ALREADY PROVED HIM WRONG . Best wishes to you and your wife. I hope same will happen in my case.

Here's what the document checklist says:

Proof of contact: Provide letters, printed text messages, emails or social media conversations, or other documented proof of contact between you and your sponsor. Provide a maximum of 10 pages with your application. You must provide certified translations in either English or French of all proof of contact documents that are not already in English or French.

I really don't know how you could read this and not think that you need to translate proof of contact documents. If they are not translated how is the visa officer to know that you are not talking to a dishwasher salesman?

And as for your anger, my friend, it's misplaced. You may have received a visa already because you had sufficient other proof. If an applicant has not enough proof without chat logs, if they are not translated into English, then they won't count.

Please feel free to prove to me that what is written in the checklist is stated, publicly by IRCC, to not be correct.

Hey All,

I think the major confusion here is due to the change in the checklist requirement. The latest checklist was updated in June 2019 where the requirement of translating the communication documents became mandatory. Before that it was not required in the checklist. However, when the checklist is updated IRCC gives few months to rigorously implement the changes that have occurred in the update. Therefore applicants till August 2019 might got away with it. There is no hundred percent answer to it, if someone applied in between June-August they might be lucky and get away with it. However, the current applicants need to make sure that they send translated proof. Hope this clarifies the confusion.

You are absolutely correct! I am not disputing your saying and its openly available on the IRCC WEB. If someone is naive enough to think that ONLY CHAT LOG is enough to prove the contact proof then I am not sure what kind of research he/she has done...AND IF ANYONE THINKS ONLY CHAT LOG WITHOUT TRANSLATION is good enough then THEY DID NOT TAKE THIS WHOLE SPONSORSHIP SERIOUSLY! If you have sent sufficient amount of proof and chat log happens to be ONE OF THE PROOF and is not translated then IT WILL NOT BE HELD AGAINST YOU! However if the officer feels the need for it to be translated then they might ask!

I actually pushed my lawyer as hard as I can to find the accurate answer for me and he finally did! SO YES you guys were right all along and I just kept denying the truth. So now I am going to get em translated....with that being said, the minimum pages requested is 10 per my understanding. Can you help me in determining the right format? Does it have to me 10 pages with x amount of words on each page or how should it be? My file is with cpcm and didnt get the AOR2 YET but i want to have it ready to send soon as they ask. Please help with your expertise guy. Thanks.

The max is 10 pages. There is no word count or limit.

I took screenshot of WhatsApp chats and formatted 4 of them in one standard letter size word page. In total I got around 40 screenshots of chats done on different dates in 10 pages and got them translated in the same format. If you need a sample Please direct message me your email I can send one.

When you said "YOU GOT THEM TRANSLATED" does it mean you had them translated to a legal translator, with affidavit etc? or you did it your self?

Licensed Translator. Yes I submitted affidavit from translator as well. Please refer to translating documents section in the application guide. Thanks
