HIV positive and worried about my chances of being selected

Hey folks ,
It gives me immense pleasure and courage after reading this forum. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences in this forum. I was diagnosed this year in January. I am in Australia right now basically from India. I am here on work visa post finishing my post graduation here in Sydney. I was invited to apply for Australian PR as I got all my points completed but unfortunately before applying for that I was diagnosed with HIV and later on I came to know that with HIV, I would not get PR in Australia under skilled migration programme . Now I am preparing my self to enter in the pool for the express entry to Canada. But I have few questions to clarify:
1. Currently my CRS score is 400 , are there any chances for being get invited ?
2. What if I apply for student visa? What are the chances of getting approval?
My work visa now here in Australia is getting expired soon and I have to move back to India , there I will look for job as soon as possible to grab more points for experience , but I wants to come to Canada straight from Australia. I am on Biktarvy and I became undetectable just after 4 weeks of starting medication and it’s more than 8 months now. Please suggest me some ways how I can improve my CRS score or if I can come to do another masters there in Canada.

with crs score of 400, its quite unlikely to get ITA given current scenario and cut off...u should try boosting your crs provided cost of your medication is below threshold...

not sure if student visa is option in his positive cases

It is a shame that Australia hasn’t updated their eligibility requirements for HIV +ve people.

1. 400 is too low. Given the completion and recent trends , anyone below 450 is never going to get an invitation in the near future for Express Entry. You can do things to improve your score or wait for PNP.

2. You can certainly apply for Student Visa. They use to deny visa for Positive students a year before but things have changed. If they think your case is going to cost money thy may deny.....Do choose ur universities wisely in provinces where you have medical coverage as a student

HIV medications are free for citizens/ PR in BC, AB,NS, PEI, NB, SK . You need to pay a huge co-pay in Ontario,Quebec and Manitoba for medicines

The most important thing as a positive student is to know / consider when your free medicine coverage starts..The start time varies for International Students in different provinces. Most don’t offer any coverage at all. Only 3 provinces offer free provincial care without provincial or private insurance ( If i were you I would choose universities in these three provinces)

BC- After 3 months
SK - ( you have to come straight to enrol in SK from your country without transferring from any university in diff provinces in Canada)
NS- After a year

3. I don’t understand why even with a PG degree you CRS score is still 400. Anyone in 22-32 age group with a PG Diploma/masters and 8 (Listening) 7 each in R,W,S in IELTS you will get >450 score. Try for PNP as well... Good Luck

FIRST MEDICAL - 18th April
AOR-22 April
ADDITIONAL MEDICAL - Got request for IGRA(Gold TB Test) and HIV Specialist Report on 29th April. My advice - Do not wait up to receive mail from CIC regarding this. Proactively follow up with your clinic. It will pop up on their systems within 2 weeks. Included my Hep B, Hep C, CD4 count, and viral load tests as part of the specialist's report. That was all on the medical side. I am happy to share the format of my specialist report for the benefit of the community if anyone is interested.

Dead silence for 6 months. No updates on medical either.

Got an email last night to submit passports. Checked CIC website - it showed everything as passed.

Hello everybody. I’m new here.
So this is my situation. I got my ITA
this October 2019. I need to have my medical exam and to be honest I never got tested for HIV. I am worried about my medical because I do not know my status. Is it gonna affect my chance to get my PR?

CRS>470 is a very good score. HIV is not something on the basis of which PR may not be given. However, it depends on case to case basis.
The annual medical inadmissibility threshold currently stands at $20,517 and your medical expenses over the next 5 years should not exceed this amount. It is good if your numbers are stable and no opportunistic infections. When you go for Medicals, just get a letter from your HIV Doc briefing on the medical history and that your numbers are stable. Rest would be taken care of during the medicals only. No need to worry or panic.

Please be calm. Stressing about it will not get you anywhere. this is not the end of the world. there are measures you can take. Maybe this could help. you are going to be alright.

HIV is not usually an exclusion for getting PR although it depends on your overall health and what treatments you are taking for HIV. May slow down the PR process slightly especially while you set up your regimen so then the cost of you Pr treatment can be measured. The majority of HIV + PR applicants are approved if they actually qualify for PR.

You can apply and in LOE write what you just said, esp "For my career it is inevitable that I immigrate to Canada." and see what they think about that. As for HIV, I don't see how you could possibly be admitted having just been diagnosed without being on treatment for a reasonable amount of time, say 1 year, making sure you're stable and having the desired response to ARV (meds). But again since it's inevitable for you to be in Canada, then you certainly will be ok.

Appreciate the sarcasm. Dedicating a year to being able to qualify doesn’t really entitle you to anything so I would make sure you not use that wording. It would be much better to have been ARVs for a while and show that your viral load is undetectable. Please be smarter people and use protection, clean needles, etc.
