Hi All,

I am coming to Canada On and Off since 2014 on Visit. My question to all you expert is that, When can I apply for Citizenship based on the following information:

Visit Since 2014: Total Days (280)
Work Permit 2018: Total Days (253)
Converted Work Permit to PR on April 2019: Since Then (200 Days)

Election is over and I am not in any hurry to VOTE until next election lol. But its good to know when can I apply. Need to pass the Citizenship test as well.

Also: What Documents do I need to prepare for the application? Any check list?

You need to stay in Canada for a lot longer. The days before you got PR only count half, and there's a maximum you can count. Try to get the three years in Canada as a PR for safety.

you need to be in Canada at least 3 years after you have the PR
they only include the last 5 years before you apply
every day before the PR will count as a 1/2 day for the total of 365 maximum credit
you say that you have the pr in April 2019,assuming you don't leave Canada for any time off you will be eligible in the same day April 2021
if you have stayed legally in Canada for 2 years (730) between April 2016 and April 2021
if not it will be some time between April 2021 and April 2022

You don't have to have held PR for 3 years, you need to have 1095 days in the country which is possible as PR for two years (730 days) and then another 365 days from 730 days in country on a work permit (does visitor count?).

It is advisable to get slightly more than 1095 days especially if you've been out of the country a lot. Remember if you are out of the country for 10 days that doesn't count (although even a minute in Canada counts as a day, so could only lose 8 days for a 10 day trip).

I applied after 2 years and 8 months with about 1200 days as I had a full 365 from 2+ years on a work permit and a significant (relatively) portion of international travel.

I received my test invite today after ~9.5 months.

Bear in mind that the eligibility requirements are open to change by successive governments. The rules today might change in the future before you become eligible. (ok, so it's less likely with a minority Liberal government, but...)

Good point. The current govt were the ones to revert back to the 1095 days as part of their first term promises.

The only change I saw this time was to reduce the fee that they possible introduced or at least increased.

But in another 4 years, who knows! And there’s no guarantee we’ll get a full term from a minority govt.

Hi All,

I have been a landed permanent resident in Canada for 618 days save a few small vacations (less than 14 days each).

Before that, I lived in the United States for the past 443 days.

Prior to that I was living in Canada as a visitor for 221 days.

And prior to all that! I was living in Canada first on a student visa starting September 1st, 2008, for 7 years, 8 months, and 5 days.

Could please anyone advise on when I should be eligible to apply for citizenship?

Thank you very much.
