Parents Sponsorship 2020 Income questions

Hi Everyone,

I went to an Immigration Consultant - Jet Immigration, Brampton, Ontario.

As I want to apply for my parents PR in 2020, I asked him about the income requirements. From my understanding, If I apply in 2020, I need NOC from 2016(I have less than $67K of family income for 2016, so I thought let's ask the consultant and refile the return with more income), 2017 and 2018 but the consultant said I don't need 2016. Instead 2017, 2018 and 2019 would be required, he didn't disclose anything else and said once I start the application with them they will guide.

The charges for the applications are 1500 + 1500 + hst.

Can someone please help and explain, Is this right? The consultant has good ratings and is registered.

It's impossible to answer this question definitively. It all depends on how the parent / grandparent sponsorship process is structured for 2020 and how applications are accepted. If the process remains relatively the same, you'll need 2017, 2018 and 2019. If the process reverts back to something that's more similar to previous years, then you'll need 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Refiling a return is tricky territory. This can trigger a CRA review of your historical tax returns for other years.

Refile the return with "More" income. Hmmmm. So, you cheated on your income tax returns. This is a Federal crime and CRA may press charges on you and they will start looking into your past years' tax filings.
Do not open the can of worms. Dont do anything illegal. Canada is very strict.

It was your own words, "refile the return with more income". Either you didn't declare all of your income or you were asking about declaring false income to inflate the number to qualify for sponsorship.

@scylla I understand that it can trigger the CRA. But how about Ircc do they approve it?

No one can say. One result may be that they issue a Procedural Fairness letter to prove that the income increase is real.

You list you job and salary. It should match up with your listed income. Based on your previous posts you are missing 10K from 2016. That is a big amount to suddenly find 3 years later.

$10,000 is a big amount to forget to file on taxes. It will for sure raise RED flags.
