Looks like you have only been in Canada since January. Have you earned the LICO amount in Canada this year? We have seen most applications being refused unless they include their NOA with above the LICO amount based on their family size,

Hi Yes. I will able to meet the amount. Also , parents are already in Canada in TRV. I am planning to extend their status from regular TRV to Super Visa status ( get a 1.5 year extension since they have already been here for 6 months )

You know I assume that a super visa can only be applied for from outside Canada and does not convert from a TRV ?

That's correct. A Super Visa cannot be applied from within Canada. But TRV extensions will be granted for 1.5 years instead of 6 months if we request that during the extension and provide the Super Visa insurance coverage proof.

Maybe share where this is written 1.5 year TRV extensions for parents so that everybody can go this route instead of supervisa.

This is unfortunately not mentioned anywhere the CIC website. However , I personally know people who have done this successfully. You just file a regular TRV extension , but you attach an extra letter requesting extension for 1.5 years and provide all the necessary documents including the super visa insurance for 1 year. I am planning to file such an extension in a few days. If I get a 2 year approval , I will post here in detail how I got it done. I couldn't find any reliable post on the internet.
This seems to be a hidden secret that many people don't know about.

TRV extension and supervisas are different. Some people may have been able to get an extension with a TRV for 1.5 years but it is not the norm. It seems like your parents arrived in Canada soon after you moved here. This could be an obstacle since CIC does not want your parents to feel like they have moved to Canada with you. Not sure who told you about this “loophole” using supervisa insurance for TRV but it is not true. Perhaps people have included emergency medical coverage with their TRV extensions.

I am going to apply for it regardless since I've heard from 3 different people who were able to pull this off. Will definitely come back here with a post if this works.

'This could be an obstacle since CIC does not want your parents to feel like they have moved to Canada with you" - This could be said for any super visa application. What makes this extension different ? There is no minimum residency requirement for the sponsor to apply for a supervisa.

Most parents are not able to secure a supervisa until their children have been in Canada for over a year because they need a NOA proving they have made over the LICO amount.

Hello, could you please let us know if you were able to get the TRV extended to supervisa for your parents? I am considering going through the same route for my parents' application. Thank you.

A TRV can't be "extended to supervisa". If your parents came to Canada on a TRV, they can apply to extend their visitor status to stay longer.

Currently the processing time is around 4 to 5 months. They are processing applications submitted in June. My application was submitted early August. I should know if the extension went through or not by end of December / January. Will post a detailed summary once I get a decision.

That is correct. But being a permanent resident , you can ask for a longer extension for your parents than a typical 6 month extension that is granted to most tourists. They typically approve a 1.5 year extension if you ask explicitly and provide sufficient information like insurance , income etc...

I do agree with your statement that using the word "Supervisa" is incorrect. It's just a long tourist visa extension.
