Study Permit Delay - Could Marital Status be the reason

I applied for a study permit about 5 and a half weeks ago, which is beyond the processing time of my area. My colleagues going to Canada have received their study permits but I have not. After thinking through my application, I could not find any reason why there should be a delay.

Now, about my Marital status. You see, after gaining the scholarship to study, I decided to marry my childhood sweetheart whom I've been dating for about 9 years. We chose a date in late July. In order to make the marriage official, we had to submit an application at the municipal assembly a month before the date. We did this submission far earlier though, somewhere in May.

Now, in my application for a study permit, which I did on 12th June, I obviously ticked "single" for marital status since I was not married at the time. But of course I was gonna get married in late July but there isn't an option in the form that would allow me to convey that info to the visa office.

As it stands now, I am very worried. Is it possible that the cause of my delay was because when they conducted a background check they found out that even though I was not married, I am planning on doing so soon?
Does their background check go that deep?
Or do they just check my name against the list of married people in my country?

What can I do to fix this?
I was thinking of getting married at an earlier date, get a marriage certificate and update my application in line with developments in my Marital status.

Is this a good idea?
Or am I setting myself up for an unneeded further cause of delay?

Processing times are just estimates. It doesn’t sound like it is related to your marriage or upcoming marriage.

Assuming the visa office finds out about a situation like mine, what would be their standard procedure??
Any thoughts would be appreciated

You are being paranoid. It has nothing to do with your marital status and IRCC has no idea about your municipal application to get married.

Processing times are generic. Some apps take longer, some shorter.

In general would encourage people to apply for study permit first and then apply for SOWP if approved. Just in case others are reading this thread who have yet to apply.

Hello there
A little update to my initial post.
On the Monday following my post,I received a reply from the Accra visa office explaining the delay of my application. Apparently they had not received my medical results. Thing is I did the medical a month before application. Anyways I went to the medical center and resolved it. I passed the medical test on 25th July. My background check has been processing even before the medical pass.
It's been over a week now, and no updates.
My total application time is now 7 weeks. When it should have been 5 weeks.

Anyways, I'd like to know how long background checks usually take for study permit.
Also, I was wondering, is it possible that since my medical results was not received, that my application was not looked until they received it? If so, should I expect it to take even longer?

Should I contact them again?? Since it's been over a week??

Yes not receiving your medical would have likely delayed your application. Processing times are just estimates. Can be much shorter but also much longer.

Thank you for your reply.
I received a correspondence letter about six hours ago.
It was simply telling me that they had successfully received my biometrics and other stuff about biometrics.
Anyways, is this a standard procedure.
Does every applicant receive this letter?
What are the implications of receiving one, other that that pertaining to my biometrics?

Nothing. They just have your biometrics.
