If you do decide to go down this route, keep refreshing the interview appointment page, you should be able to find appointments much earlier and sooner as people do cancel. Or ask a travel agent to do it on your behalf. There's no such a thing that it's hard for a visitor in Canada to apply for U.S. visa, as long as you pass their requirements that is.
With less than 30 calendar days now, it is too much a risk, what happens if US visa rejected. It is sad but they have to return right after taking the long flight here :(

:( I feel for you man. Sigh. But I guess not much else you can do different right? Are there cheaper options? I thought people go to Mexico for holidays because flights there are quite cheap? Carribean?

yes that is very strange. I suppose they thought most of the applicants would be based overseas when they asked for biometrics.

Maybe you can plan a trip to your home country while you take the biometrics? Visit relatives and friends?

At the end of the day, the amount in healthcare coverage would be far more than the 4-5k. Consider it an expense to get the PR?

Actually to put it in perspective, all of us would have to spend some money to get our parents over from wherever they are anyway (ie plane tickets from India, Australia, China, Europe, New Zealand, UK, Malaysia etc) . So consider it part of the whole process and expenses?
Thanks, I think for now that is the only option. But the sad thing is they request just when my parents travel here and only gives 30 days making it so inconvenient and uncessarily costly. For 70 years olds to take long flights already a burden not to mention the costs

It costs over 1K for direct flight, most cheap options have a lay over in USA which requires transit visa. Cheap flights are mostly to tourist cities like Cancun not Mexico City, there is only one biometric centre in Mexico and it is in Mexico City. Carribean have no biometric centres and most flights transit in USA and many Carribean countries require visa as well. I have explored all options and only feasible way is to go back :(

To get a US visa now it takes more than 30 days just to get an appointment for interview at the embassy in Toronto, and I heard very hard to get visitor visa if your status in Canada is just visitor
To get US visa being in Canada even on super visa is enough easy, my mom got without any issue. They even did not check anything. Maybe it is more difficult for people who has some ties with US.

Looking at case of @redmonkey1995, does it make sense to do biometrics in advance for PGP if you already have a file number and can link to myCIC or you MUST wait for CIC to request you for biometrics ?

How else does one decide on when to call parents on regular visa, if they are currently not here with the sword of 30 day biometrics hanging over your head.

this 30 day thing is so arbitrary. And the agents wont make any exceptions?

Tough. Wow. My parents may be coming to visit later in the year as well. Looks like I might encounter the same problem as you.

If you receive this letter and is in Canada, you must leave Canada to take it. Agents said no exception.

Sorry for you. It's really bad timing. But still can't you request( mail or email to Case officer ) to extent time or exception for your current scenario as Parents just reach here and old ...can't take long flight again.) I know it's upto case officer but why not try..explain the situation...

Can we all send request to CIC to consider giving more time for biometric or allow exemption for those in Canada at time they got request for biometric? I believe more people request they will listen? This is a huge burden, parents are visiting us in summer and now many are in limbo

If she send the request now it may take more than 30 days to get a response from CIC, it is too late then
