Study Permit Refusal

Hi,

I am a Kenyan citizen and have been accepted to Rotman (UofT) for my MBA starting in fall 2019. My study permit was refused and the reason given is as follows:

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status.

My brother in the United States is sponsoring my studies as I have not saved up enough to be able to pay the fees and living costs. he has plenty of funds to cover both my tuition and living costs. I intend to reapply for the study permit and am wondering how I can overcome the reason for rejection stated.

Are my personal assets relevant if I am not self sponsoring? I don't understand how I can show more financial assets.

Yes. He wrote a letter, provided pay stubs and bank statements as well

Then thats tough, you could consider paying the 1 year school fee and depositing GIC account of 10,000 to prove finances but check your schools refund policy first if you dont get it.

Sorry for the refusal. If you're a matured applicant, and showed work experience while filling your forms, it's expected you show fund in your personal account.
Pay your school fees, and let your sponsor transfer your living expenses to your account that shows commitment.

What happens if your brother faces any financial issues while you are studying in Canada? This is the question in the officer's mind. Do you have a backup? Do you have your personal funds or any assets with which you can manage funds instead of missing classes and working illegally in Canada?

Ah okay. I see it from the VO's perspective. I have real estate in my home country. My dad does too. Will showing those titles deeds help?

yes most are but if you have been working then they expect that you may have your own savings or something.

I applied for study permit for my son, a minor (16 in August) and provided all documents required (including appropriate custodian) but the application was rejected with the following reasons:

• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in
subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your travel history.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in
subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.

You are welcome to reapply if you feel that you can respond to these concerns and can
demonstrate that your situation meets the requirements. All new applications must be
accompanied by a new processing fee.

Does anyone know what I can do to enhance a successful reapplication?

I know of applicants that have obtained study visa even though they had not traveled out before (like my son) so am a bit at a loss as to reason no1. 2 DLI universities gave him admission without requesting for language tests. I am planning to register him to take the lessons for IELTS and the test asap. Would this help?

I feel the second reason may be addressed with a modified SOP. Can anyone assist with this? I am Nigerian.What should a strong SOP include apart from the following that I had stated in the one I submitted:

1.The benefits of attending a university with international reputation to provide some edge in local job market after returning back to Nigeria

2.The benefits of studying in a university with exposure to modern business and accounting practice that could be applied to the management of local businesses

Please every suggestion and assistance in preparation for the reapplication shall be appreciated
