So I'm a March 11th applicant who hasn't had OWP approval yet. I actually called IRCC to answer a certain question I had, and during the conversation the agent informed me that the OWP is given when AIP is given on the PR application...

What? I am absolutely certain that is false. It really makes me wonder why this agent was given this information. But the fact that I still have not received it is making me wonder if that's what they are waiting for for my case specifically
Somewhat of an update to this post here...

I tried to apply for Alberta Healthcare with the Visitor permit that was mailed to me, and it was denied because the visitor permit has less than 6 months on its its validity status. It has from May to August, even though I applied for it in January and my original status expired in February.

Now it's making me wonder why the extension is listed as being from May, and if that means that they will treat my OWP application as being submitted on implied/out of status. That will be highly upsetting because it will mean that even though I did everything right, I still get punished by having to wait longer to work.

Hello, I have applied for inland sponsorship in Mar, I received AOR May 2nd and passed medical on my 24th, but they returned my OWP because of insufficient payment I made a mistake and didn't pay the 155 for extension I only paid 100, anyway, the OWP application was stamped with "received 21st of Mar" and the supporting documents that I provided with the open work permit application were not returned I've paid the fees and sent it back, my question is since it was stamped with received does this mean I don't have to wait for another 3 or 4 months or regardless I'm back on the queue?

Thanks for the reply, this is really sad :( I originally had a missing tax document in my PR application that I applied for in Jan, then it was sent back to me in March, then resubmitted in March now with the missing payment for work permit is another 3 months, which means I will receive it in September or end of August if I am lucky enough, that's just sad.

It's unfortunate for sure, the only time I ever saw it not go back to the start of the queue was when IRCC returned someones OWP accidentally when there was nothing wrong with the application.

I see, I am just wondering why do they stamp it with received and date, since they put it back in the queue and start again? Also the supporting documents that it was attached with the application they didn't return it, I hope that doesn't mean I needed to resubmit new documents with the returned application :(

They will likely restamp with a new date. Not to sound harsh - but because it was your mistake, you don't get expedited processing, unfortunately.

I do understand, it just wasn't clear in the fees instructions that I needed to pay for extended work permit fees, I thought since I'm applying for my first work permit. Anyway, I guess I need to wait. Thanks for the response

It is unclear but it's all over forums. Unfortunately it happens a lot.

That's unfortunate indeed, I can only imagine how many people made this mistake, I should've checked the forums, oh well. I couldn't foresee such thing happening :) better wait for the summer along with OWP, btw since I got AOR and passed medical, and now resubmitted my OWP application, do I still need to renew my visa? I came 31st of October to Canada and been here since, my visitor visa is for 5 years but I passed the 6 months period, do I have to renew anything or since I've already received AOR etc.. I'm fine?

When was your OWP app returned? If it was returned once your visitor status expired I have some bad news for you. You cannot receive OWP while you are out of status. If this happened past your valid status you would not get OWP until you hit the Approval in Principle phase unless you apply to restore your status which is a separate cost and application in itself and should have been sent with the OWP resubmission.

Oh no! The OWP was returned on the 15th of May, which is 15 days past the 6 months if I'm counting correctly, things just keeps getting more complicated :( ok so now they won't accept the application I resubmitted, can I resubmit the application of restoring status with a letter to the same office I sent the work permit? Or I would have to wait the 3 months until they send it back and then can resubmit?

They won't send it back - you just won't get your OWP until the very end of the process. I would get your restoration application done right now and send it. May be worthwhile to call as well.

When you are out of status you are not eligible for the OWP until you've been approved in principle.

And to be approved in principle it happens in the end of the process time? I have 9 months left until the 12 month mark of my PR application... Ok I will send restoration application and send it, do you happen to have direct link to the restoration application? I'm just afraid to do another mistake now, thanks for the help , I really appreciate it .
