Currently going through Inland Common-law Sponsorship and application already submitted. We included a notarized letter of support from one of the sponsor’s family members who works for IRCC. Would that letter be considered inadmissible or biased since that family member works for immigration?

I don’t think it’s an issue

IMO - this was probably a bad call on the part of the family member who works for IRCC. I don't think there will be any harm to your application - but this sounds like a conflict of interest and employers generally have rules around conflicts of interest.

I forgot to note that this family member works in the Citizenship department not the PR department. Not sure if that would matter if the departments are different? I am worried that the family member could get in trouble at work.

I don't know - I don't work for IRCC. It will depend on what their employee code of conduct states. Your family member may want to check that. Quite possible the letter may be no issue.

Having said that, I would very very strongly recommend that your family member not inquire about the status of your application at work or look up your application in any system they have access to. This would almost certainly be a serious code of conduct and/or privacy offence.

Agreed. If I were the family member, I’d let my supervisor know. There is the public sector values and ethics code but there could also be something internally at IRCC.

Thanks everyone! I didn't know there was a code of conduct publicly available online. I'm going to read through and see if anything else comes up related to this. I just confirmed with the family member that they have no direct access to immigration-related applications or decisions and they are merely a witness to our relationship so they said it was fine - no personal interest or preferential treatment on their part. Thanks again for all the replies!

That may be the case, but if it were me (and I do work in a government department) I would approach my supervisor and my HR department to let them know that I have written the letter.

Is there a question in any application form you fill out asking " Does any of you or your spouse's family member works for CIC/IRCC" , IF yes mention below ?
If you didnt find a question like this , you are good !

I think we all agree there is no impact to the OP's application. If there's impact, it may be to the OP's family member.
