I was told by someone that the more (number of times per day/week) you check your application status, the longer it takes to process your file. Does anyone has any idea, is it really so?

Highly doubt that its true. and would recommend to let the process flow and not check it every day. I plan to check it only post 30 days, as nothing would change till then.

isn't it better to check the ee profile more frequently..as we may miss any clarification queries asked by them ?

Yeah! I think it feels longer when you check your application everyday, multiple times a day. Its best to just be patient and do something productive instead, like getting your international driver's licence and driving record etc.

Yes, To be safe. Right now the bulk of PRs coming through are from the Sep AOR or earlier. So there's a good chance that April'19 is too soon to expect the process to finish.
