Physio jobs are abundant in the bigger cities. Im gunning for Ontario. My credentialling started in April 2009 and finished in November 2009. So roughly 8 months and my application had a precedent case; meaning someone who has the same credentials as mine has already gone through the process. I was eligible for PLAR and will start with the required 3 courses in the Spring next year via distance learning. God-willing I will be finished with these additional requirements by the time my PR visa pushes through.

All internationally educated physios let us all keep in touch.
@trinatocanada and all physio members,

I am a physio, have sent my full docs to Singapore visa Office, and now just waiting for 2nd AOR.
I was planning to start my credential process but got confused after thinking that it is too early to start. Not sure!!
It is obvious that I have to go through this PLAR.
I don't know how much time it may take to complete PLAR and become eligible for the written exam.

@trinatocanada,could u pls suggest me in this regard. Is there any fees involved to do PLAR?
Is there anyone in this forum have already strated their credential process with Canadian physio reg. board?

Regrads,

Sumon

Hello rosellyalung,

Once the Alliance has finished reviewing your papers, they will decide if you need to go through PLAR. Note: The initial assessment is different from the PLAR assessment. Meaning that if they say that you need PLAR... you have to pay them again to get the PLAR assessment.

In the PLAR assessment they will send you a list of subjects you need and the corresponding schools/universities where you can take them. Thompson Rivers University in BC is one of the schools that offer onlince courses that have already been approved by the Alliance. You can take the online course virtually from anywhere in the world.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions that I may be able to help you with.

Hello sumon,

You can see all the required fees in the Alliance's website... and like I said in an earlier post, the initial assessment fee is different from the PLAR assessment fee.

About your question of whether it is more beneficial to start credentialing before PR... well you see that depends. In my case, I thought it best to begin early while I still have a stable job to pay for all the fees etc. I had planned to finish all required subjects before I left for Canada because I can do that all online and then sit for the written PCE when I land.

There are also drawbacks of taking these courses while you are not yet a PR in Canada:

1.) You will be required to take a final exam (for Thomson Rivers Univ.)... if you are outside Canada, you have to arrange a professor from a university where you live and submit a letter of permission to TRU if they will allow this person to proctor your exam. Very very tedious but not impossible.

2.) If you are already a PR, tuition fees are much more affordable. It will be 50% less as compared to not being a Canadian PR.

Before registering with any of the provincial bodies, you need to go through the Alliance first and pass the written PCE. After that, most provincial bodies can issue a temporary license to practice under a mentor until the time you pass the practical PCE and register as a full member.

Hope this helps.

just discovered a program by the National Academy of Sports Medicine; corrective exercise specialist,i want to know if anyone knows of this and how acceptable it is Canada?also from my research, it's like there are more providers in this sector like the Post rehabilitation specialists in ortho, cardio etc who seem to be gaining popularity now.can one do any of these while waiting for certification as a physio?

Hi Jacob,
I feel there is no harm in updating your certificates to your chc.
