My wife and I are landing in April in Toronto as immigrants. Had a few questions regarding our funds:

Currently, we have a balance of CAD 27,000 in our bank account. We are going to be taking around 1,000 CAD each in cash and around 5,000 CAD each in our individual forex cards, amounting to a total of 12,000 CAD. This will leave around 15,000 CAD in the bank account. My questions as below:

1.) The cash + forex card amount that we carry will be more than 10,000 CAD for the two of us. Is the 10,000 CAD limit per person or per family?

2.) Is forex card counted as cash you are bringing in and therefore does that have to be declared?

3.) As per the CIC website, the amount required for a family of 2 is CAD 15,500. We will have 15,000 CAD in our bank account statement (signed and stamped along with a letter from the bank) and also will have a forex account statement showing the debit and balance of 10,000 CAD added to our forex cards. Will this suffice?

Look forward to your responses!

1. The limit for 2 people is available here https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...become-candidate/eligibility/proof-funds.html (This is CAD 15531)

2. Yes, its counted. You should have printed account statement balance (latest one) to prove that

3. This would be fine.

Over all you can carry cash in hand or on any card or in bank. Just need to prove with necessary statements.

Thanks for your response! The link you provided is the minimum amount, not the limit though.

If the minimum amount required is 15,531 and the limit is 10,000, then everyone will be bringing in money above the limit right?

They are bothered about the minimum amount only during entry (if they check)
If you are not carrying more than 10000CAD in hand, they are not bothered.

For 2 people, you need to prove minimum of 15531

There is no $10000 limit. Many people have this misconception.

You can bring any amount of money into Canada.

If you are bringing more than $10000 in form of cash, DD, or travellers cheque, you just need to declare it while landing (there is a form that will be given to you in the airplane).

As long as the excess money is declared, you can take it into Canada. This is a precaution taken by Canada to prevent money laundering.

Also money in forex cards are not counted, it does not have to be declared.

If I bring along with me limited cash (say C$3,000 and around C$9,000 in my Forex Card, do I need to declare anything?

This is for my first time landing in Canada.

Does anyone who already landed have been asked to show the bank statement (if they carrying half cash and half in account) as proof of funds or immigration people never bothered.

Hi guys!

I have a question!

My husband and I are going to land in feb,2019 and as we are two the minimum proof of funds needed is 15,351 CAD or so.

While filling the application we had written 20k CAD.

We now need to use some of it for paying off our car loan. We will keep 15k intact in the account while landing, so basically while landing do we need to have the amount that we quoted (i.e 20k) or having the min requirement (15k) is fine?

Thanks a lot!
