Getting Married in Canada on a Tourist Visa

Hello,
We just went to city hall in the city we got married in. According to the city's site, "There are no citizenship or residency requirements when applying for a marriage licence in Ontario." We both showed our passports, filled out the form, and paid the fee and that was that. It was a simple process. Good luck!

I am on a similar situation. I am Canadian a citizen and my fiance is European (Lithuanian citizen). We are currently in a long distance relationship. Our relationship might not as seem as long as the others, however, I have met her in person (we both flew to Paris to meet each other) and we both get along really well. We plan to close the gap and plan to have her come over to Canada this September and get married around November/December. Is it okay to apply right away for inland sponsorship? What are the requirements to be eligible to apply for inland sponsorship? Another thing, We have Skype chat/call logs for over a year, whats app text messages/voice messages, photos over Paris, we might as well add photos when she comes over to Canada and our wedding photo together with friends and family, only exception is, her family won't be able to come, so It would be only be my side of family and friends, add in marriage certificate. Would that be enough to prove of our relationship as genuine? Please help, We really need guidance.

This is exactly our situation [similar to free_verse].

1: free_verse do you have an update on your situation? did it all work-out?

2: we now have the decision to make if to do outland or inland sponsorship. Outland sponsorship for my country according to processing times on the embassy site can take up to 18 months total - that is an insane amount of time apart. So inland is looking quite good. Especially with the new update to allow sponsored applicant to work [ cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/updates/2014/2014-12-22.asp ].

However, we are concerned about the time for inland processing and the probability of successful approval of sponsorship. Does anyone have experience here, I am thinking they really only reject based on extreme situations where fraud is suspected, criminal history, debt to the state is involved? IF our application is completely legit, do we have anything to worry about?

3: Robsluv stated "During the entire processing time you will be advised NOT to leave Canada - if you leave and you cannot get another TRV to come back (which is highly likely to be the case) your inland application is forfeited." What if you leave while your TRV is still valid [she has a multi-entry TRV]? Does this also count for short visits to the USA?

Any time you leave the country, you are gambling. If you are refused for whatever reason, it could cause your application to be deemed abandoned, and you would have to start over again.

What country is your spouse from? How 25+ months (guaranteed) can look "good" to anyone is beyond me.

My [future] spouse is from Trinidad & Tobago.
25+months is not far from 18 months, and we would be together since it would be inland. not sure if the 18 quoted for outland is just a safe estimate and they actually process faster?

There's a thread for applicants through Port of Spain. The posted time is a worst case scenario. There was one applicant recently who was finished in 5 months. If you have a solid case, no missing documents or problems, then you should be through in less than the posted time.
Inland is a minimum 25+ months.

Right now, we are getting mixed reviews of both methods [inland/outland]. It's a bit overwhelming, considering how much information is out there, and also each case, each country, each visa office is different.

I guess now outland is looking better - since 25 months in limbo without an "official" status in Canada will be tough, for work for her, benefits, etc...

I'm in Canada on post graduate work permit and I met my boyfriend (PR) 8 months ago, we are in a relationship for 7 months now, my work visa is expiring in 1 month and we understood that we don't wanna loose each other;
My biggest concern right now is wether or not it's too late for us to get married and what happens if we will get married and then before any decision on my case will come my status will expire;
Can I remain in Canada legally after my Visa expires and waiting for the decision on PR?

Getting married does nothing to your legal status in Canada. IRCC would have to receive your completed PR application before your status expires in order to remain legally in Canada after your visa expires. If you cannot get your application submitted in time, you would have to apply for a visa extension for a visitor status before your work visa expires. This will allow you some time to get all your papers together (must include marriage certificate).

Both PR and Canadians have the same qualifications to sponsor a spouse inland. The only different a PR has over a Canadian is that PR cannot reside outside Canada for PR spouse sponsorship.
