Hi, I received my ITA on July 11.
I applied for PCC from Indian Consulte in Chicago a couple days ago. I have all other documents but they told me the ‘minimum’ time to process takes 30 days and beyond that it’s ‘indefinite’.
Can I get my PCC directly from India?
Because I have only a month and ten days left.

Where was your passport issued? If it was issued in India they will send PCC request back to India and it may take some time.

Hi, thanks for your response.
My passport was issued in India.
Typically the turnaround time is 1 day to a week (in all Indian embassies) but I’m worried about missing the deadline as they mentioned “indefinite” amount of time.
I could get it easily directly from India though. Will that be accepted as currently I do not reside in India.

Also how did you apply? Did you apply in person or did you mail your documents. In case you applied in person they can check whether they have your PCC already in "system". In case your passport was issued recently they may already have PCC on file. In that case your PCC will be pretty quick. But if they don't have you in "system" it will be sent back to your passport office in India for further action.

I know couple of friends who applied in NYC and Atlanta, they received the same day and a week respectively

I applied in person.
They said system has not been updated
But My family lives close to my local Police station (so i have a good rapport) in India and they said they still haven’t received any inquiries!!!

They will tell a standard garbage statement but will issue it much earlier.
Here in Toronto if you apply through BLS(agency) they say 3-4 weeks but end up giving it in 1 week, even when my passport was not issued in Canada

Chicago also issues in a day in case your PCC is already in the "system". The person at the counter can check and tell you that.

Oh okay! May be I should a week or so then? Except for the receipt I currently have no proof. They mentioned they will send an official email, which I have not received.

I don’t wanna give you false hopes wrt your case. What’s the last date of submitting your application ?
