Good Morning
I came to Canada 6 years ago as a refugee and I recently got my confirmation of permanent residency on the 10 of may 2018. I got asked to resend photos for my initial PR card on the 1st of July and the letter stated that if I did not send them in 30 days, my application for permanent residency would be cancelled. I resent my pictures right away and they were received on the 5th of July. I have not yet received my PR card .

My question is , I have to travel out of the country on the 2nd of august and the agent I spoke to said the pr cards processing is behind meaning by the time I have to travel I won’t have my card yet.

Given that I came to Canada as a refugee, but 2 months ago I received my confirmation of PR; am I eligible to apply for permanent resident travel document to return to Canada? or am I still considered a refugee since I haven’t received my PR card?

You can apply for a permanent resident travel document from the country where you are going. Just make sure that you know what are the requirements for the PR Travel Document and make them ready from now. Please note that depending on where you are going, the PR Travel Document (visa) time might differ from couple of days (UK, Austria, ..) to couple of months. So if I were you, I would research on how long it usually takes to get PR travel document from the country that you are visitng.

Good Luck

Make sure you don't use your home country passport to travel or renew your home country passport. Also make sure you don't visit your home country.

thank you for the info. however I had spoken to my case worker and he told me that to travel I should renew my passport from my home country given that when I got my pr my passport had expired. so I applied for a new passport through the embassy here but I have no intentions what so ever, of going back to my home country given the circumstances of why I had to seek refuge here.

im now just a little confused given that my case worker told me to renew my home country passport and use that for traveling. now that I received a new passport does that jeopardize my pr status? was I supposed to use another document for travel purposes? im sorry, im now just worried and confused here.

Absolutely do not travel on your home country passport. It's bad enough that you renewed it. If this means canceling your travel plans - cancel your travel plans. Yes - this can jeopardize your PR status.

You need to obtain a Refugee Travel Document to travel (this is different than a PR Travel Document). Renewing your home country passport, traveling on your home country passport and/or returning to your home country can result in citizenship being refused once you apply and your PR status being revoked.

There's a good thread on this topic here:

https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/refugee-travel-document-questions-and-answers.397458/

Again, whatever you do - do not use your home country passport to travel.
