We would like to hire a temporary worker from the Philippines as a nanny (we have an individual in mind).

The new process seems to be very complicated. Can anyone advise on the process from
a) An employer’s view, and
b) Costs including fees and medical insurance?

As an employer we have a Business Number already (sole proprietorship).

The individual we have in mind has the TESDA caregiver certification.

Is this still possible?

Thanks all I hope someone can reply :) I'm kind of surprised that no one on this board has gone through this process - it's possible that it's just not worth it anymore. I know I was looking at it and it _seems_ that it may be less expensive (and less hassle) to find someone here even at a much higher rate. It's unfortunate as we were hoping to help out a friend as well.

You may check this out when hiring Live in caregiver as latest changes has been made.

Thanks yes I've seen that and read through it many times, but I'm looking for some personal experience as the whole process still seems complicated and laborious, and maybe it is.

I, too, am in the process of hiring my sister as a caregiver. My husband is the primary employer.
We have 3 children under 5.
We both work full-time.
Sister works as a process control engineer in the Philippines for more than 2 years now but has caregiver diploma. No paid experience.
We have submitted LMIA application and now waiting for result.
I hope anyone who went through the process would share their timeline.
Ours is as follow:

June 5/18, obtained CRA business #.
June 7/18, Jobbank, Kijiji, craigslist, caregiver.ca posting (Job bank was active on June 15, had to wait for approval)
July 15/18, mailed complete application: LMIA application form, job contract, supporting documents
July 18/18, mail delivered and received at processing centre.

Now waiting.....

Hello!! I am going through this process and currently waiting for the approval from the Immigration. I am hiring my stepdaughter who is a nurse in the Philippines and currently working on her profession. We started the jobbank advertisement in late Feb 2018. We used 2 more paid sites to advertise the nanny job. On March 30 we applied for LMIA and I got approved 2 months after which is in May. Just a note, the advertisements should be active while the LMIA is being processed. Do not cut it otherwise you will get denied. And also the LMIA agent will call you for an interview regarding the said application. The agent will let you know if the LMIA is approved or denied after the interview.
I sent the positive LMIA to the caregiver and she passed it to the VFSGlobal in Manila. After a week, she got an email saying she needs to undergo medical. And now we are in the third week of waiting for their response. Hope my information help you guys. Good luck to all of us.

Hi,

We just recently got a positive LMIA. Caregiver will apply online, she is from the Philippines. Can anyone post what are the required documents for her? How long is the process (Online application)? and if approved, what are her next step? We are hoping we can get a caregiver for our children by November 1, is that too ambitious?

Congratulations! All the required documents can be found on the Canada website.Like, Employment letters, payslips, contribution to SSS/Pag-Ibig,diploma,other certificates she may have.If she gets approved she needs to find an agency who can do the OEC. I’m not sure on this part because I haven’t done it. Our caregiver was denied in the Philippines. Don’t hope for Nov 1,waiting for the Immigration reply will take 1-2 months it depends plus you have to do the interview at the Philippine Consulate wherever you are so it will take longer than youe expected date.

Thank you for your honest input! Here are her lists of required documents and what she is submitting. I will appreciate more input/advice anyone can give:

1. Work Permit Application (IMM1295) - Completed. Will it be an issue when declared that she had 2 refused Visitor Visa applications prior? 1 in 2014 and another in 2016.
2. Employment Reference Letter - She is a Process Control Engineer, her boss completed a very thorough reference letter. But will that be relevant when she is being hired as a caregiver? She does not have caregiver experience but took the 6 months training.
3. LMIA Letter - Completed.
4. Passport - Completed. Digital Scan (Not the actual passport)
5. Employment Records - Employment Reference Letter (Same as #2) and Paystubs. Are these sufficient? (Note again: Her record is Process Control Engineer and not caregiver)
6. CV/Resume - Completed
7. Proof of Medical Exam - Completed. Upfront Medical.
8. Digital Photo - Completed
9. Family Info (IMM5645) - Completed. Will it be an issue if her brother-in-law/sister are her employers?
10. Employment Contract - Completed and Signed.
11. Proof that you meet the requirement of the job - Caregiver diploma and Caregiver TOR. (Are these all she need?)
12. TRV Application (IMM 5257) - Completed
13. Client Information - What to upload here? Will it be appropriate to submit here? 1. NBI Clearance 2. IELTS Result 3. University Diploma. Anything else she can provide to strengthen her case?

Does anybody has experience with online work permit application? How long is the turn around?

What is an OEC? What does she need to complete this?
"you have to do the interview at the Philippine Consulate wherever you are" Will you please elaborate what this means? "you" means the employer/s has to go to the Philippine Consulate? and what is the interview for?

Thank you kindly to anyone who can give me answers to these queries!

Warmest Regards,

Mrs. Smith
