Working more than 20 hours

So, the situation with me is that I am taking just one course this summer. This is because there's only one course left for me to graduate. With that being said, I was wondering if I am allowed to work for more than 20 hours off campus?

With full time status, I know I'd have to be within the stipulated "20 hours" criteria But is there any exception to the working hours condition given that I am only taking single course?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Why do you have only a single course left? Where you supposed to graduate already but failed a course?

and not studying full-time.
I am not doing part time either, Well you can call it that way but since I only have only one course left to do, that wouldn't necessary be considered as as studying part time. Part time studying is when lets say you have 6 courses left and you are taking 4 now and 2 later and so forth.

I have nothing but a single course left to graduate even if that's called studying part time, I am good with it as long as I am allowed to work for 20 hours, which apparently I am. Thanks for your reply though

Yes you are correct.
Who can work off-campus?
You may work off-campus without a work permit if you:

  • have a valid study permit
  • are a full-time student at a designated learning institution (DLI)
  • have started studying
  • are in a program that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate and is at least six months long and
  • have a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
If you are no longer a full-time student, you may still work off-campus if you:

  • have been a full-time student since you started your program in Canada and
  • are now studying part-time only because this is your last semester (and you don’t need a full course-load to complete your program).

You failed a course and therefore failed to graduate on time. You are not on your last semester, as that finished in May. You are NOT on a scheduled break because your course technically finished. You don't get extra time to work in Canada because you failed a course,

You are not allowed to work at all. If you do, it will be illegal.

I would have finished my two-year course in one and a half year as I had taken summer school.

What if I hadn’t done the summer school, I would’ve finished around August regardless. And there’s no such thing as “you have failed to graduate on time” or that “it is supposed to be my last semester”.

Students get to decide what shall be their last semester. For example: I could’ve taken this summer off and return in the Fall to continue this course (which btw is called a “SCHEDULED BREAK” in which, I can work full time) And I am very much entitled to do that. I just have to apply for an extension of my study permit. Many friends of mine are actually doing it right now. So, there’s no such thing as last semester. But yes, you’d have to get all the credits for your course no matter how much time it takes to get those.

Technically you are saying that I should be deported back to my country since I have failed one course. That doesn’t happen.

There is certainly "failed to graduate on time". You were supposed to graduate last semester but didn't because you failed a course. You can't choose to take breaks and you are not on a scheduled break. They must be scheduled in the program. As I said, failing a course doesn't grant you the ability to work longer in Canada.

I'm not saying you should be deported. You can certainly stay and finish your studies as long as you have a valid study permit. You just aren't allowed to work.

So if someone fails a course , why ? Does the person not entitled to work? I don’t get you fail is part of study. Either you pass or fail and if you fail you have the right to do the course again! And there’s no law that you can’t work because you have failed a course

After going through all the posts below I think your best course of action is to call IRCC and ask...simple.....

Why does someone fail a course? Probably didn't study...

No, this person is not entitled to work.

I never said OP can't do the course again.

Yes, there is such a law. The law allows a student to work while on a scheduled break or studying full-time; neither of those requirements apply to OP, therefore, s/he is not allowed to work.

Hmm quite interesting, can you show me where such law is? If you’re a student and fail in a course, you can’t work whiles you are talking the course again even if your student visa is valid!
