Getting PCC from India, Living in USA

Hi,

I currently have two options for getting Indian PCC:

1) Getting from New york Indian Consulate
2) Asking my parents to get the PCC from India and then send that to me.

I wanted to see if there is any issue with the second option. As per the CIC page:

If you live outside of India:
You can apply at your nearest Indian embassy or consulate.

Does this means that I can only apply from the nearest Indian Consulate OR are they just giving us an option to get this from either the consulate or India?

Hi,

Applying at the Indian Consulate in NYC is a much straight forward and easier option. They'll require 2 forms, 2 passport sized photos and I think $28 ($25 fee + $3 development cess) per person.

PCC is done within 2-3 days. In my case, I submitted the required forms in Indian Consulate in San Francisco on Friday, and Monday morning got a call from them to get PCC letter from them.

Actually I was thinking of avoiding the trip to NYC (and I dont want to mail my original passport).

You can choose to apply PCC from India. However, since the PCC in India is done by the local police station; you might want to check if the addrss on your passport is the same as your permanent home address in India. If not, then your PCC might be delayed as the police station will not be establish your residence on that address.

I was in same confusion last year. My 2 cents, don't ask your parents in India. You should get it from Indian Consulate in the US

Also my address in passport is different than current address, as my parents recently moved to a new house in different address.

I am not sure how the embassy treats this case. Any suggestions would be helpful.

It took me 2 weeks to get my PCC from Indian consulate in Atlanta. The FBI were actually faster, they sent me the PCC 2 days from receiving the fingerprints.

I have got mixed feedback from acquaintances so far. I currently reside in Singapore and a citizen of India. In the process of submitting my application. I have already secured the PCC from the Indian Embassy in Singapore. I am planning for a vacation to India before the submission. Does this mean I should obtain a PCC again once I come back?

CIC website reads as follows:
"For countries in which the applicant no longer lives, the police certificate must have been issued after the last time the client lived in that country"

I live in Singapore now. I dont live in India but visiting India on vacation. Any feedback appreciated
