Four Attempts of IELTS

Hi all,

I have written IELTS test four times now within the last year in order to score 7 bands in writing. I got 8.5 bands in all the other modules, so I am only struggling with writing. I am stuck at 6.5 bands, and this half band has a 20 points difference for my Express Entry profile. I came out here to just share my experience and was wondering if someone else has any similar experience or any suggestion to how to get out of this situation if I plan to take ielts again.

I really need some advice.

Sorry to hear that. But you can definitely crack it by using the roadtoielts program. For Writing, it is important that you understand few complex structures and use them effectively to score band 7 and above. Personally, I got 8 and 7.5 in Writing in my two attempts just by going through roadtoielts and by referring the sample band 8 essays online. If you are 6.5 in Writing, just with few improvements you should be able to achieve even band 8.

For Writing, that's all; I had to cover. In addition to that, you can install chrome tools like 'Grammarly' that can dictate your grammar and highlight the spell check errors including punctuations. The biggest problem with writing is the lack of appropriate feedback which can be fixed with tools like Grammarly. If you can afford, I would even recommend purchasing the licensed version for $180/-.

Hi. I have the same problem. I always get a 6.5 on writing. I took the exams with idp. Now, I tried my luck with bc. I am still waiting for the results. And oh, this is my 4th attempt.

Considering you have scored 8.5 in other section...i clearly see you need personalised coaching from a specialist to really understand where you are lacking..I would recommend Ieltsliz if you have not heard about it before...20 points is huge for EE Profile...It will worth the investment...Good Luck!!

Its quite frustrating....
As you can see below , I am losing our marginally & a minimum score of 8777 will take my score to 469 from 403

IELTS (March '17) : L:7.5 R:6.0 W:7.5 S:8.0 British Council
IELTS (Aug '17) : L:9.0 R:6.0 W:6.5 S:8.0 British Council
IELTS (Feb '18) : L:8.0 R:6.5 W:7.0 S:6.5 IDP
IELTS (March '18) : L:7.5 R:7.0 W:6.5 S:7.5 British Council
CLB 9 will take my score to 469 from 403

Any advice's , please feel free...

Hi mate! According to your scores the biggest problem is Reading and I think it's because they mark Reading very strictly, you are only allowed to make 6 mistakes and that's not easy.
I think you should try and get 8 in Listening and 7 in Reading, and if you don't get 7's in Writing and/or Speaking then you should go for EoR. I think your Speaking in good enough so at least if/when Remark return positive for your Speaking you get your money back.

I can only suggest to practice for reading. So that you know where you’re going wrong. Focus on enhancing your vocabulary it will simultaneously help you in increasing your listening score as well. I scored a 9 in both listening and reading and the only key is vocabulary and practice.
