Can I sponsor my brother over 18

I am wondering if I can sponsor my brother to Canada. I am Canada PR and my family members consists my wife and my child. Both are Canadian citizen. My siblings are in Pakistan and my parent are deceased. My brother is single and 23 years old.

I am wondering if my brother still can be sponsored. and there is a note on the website says

"You can sponsor one relative regardless of age or relationship only if you do not have a living spouse or common-law partner, conjugal partner, a son or daughter, parent, grandparent, sibling, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece who could be sponsored as a member of the family class, and you do not have any relative who is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.

So is my brother eligible?

No - unfortunately you are not eligible to sponsor your brother. He will have to immigrate on his own.

If you had no wife, no children, your parents were no longer alive and you had no other family in Canada - you might then qualify to sponsor your brother. However since you have a spouse and children - you don't qualify.

Again, your brother will have to qualify on his own. You can help him by researching the information in the link above to determine if he qualifies to apply and under which program.

No you cannot sponsor your brother as your parents are still alive. CIC will reject your reasoning.

Your parents take precedent over your brother. So as long as your parents are alive, you are really "not alone" as you can sponsor your parents to come to Canada.

Hi guys, I have a somewhat similar question. I want to sponsor my younger (half) brother. I believe his parents lost their rights to him, but I'm not too sure. Does that make any difference? He lives with our aunt now, under legal guardianship. He is 15 now, but I would like him to move to Canada with me when he graduates high school (he'll be 17, almost 18). If he's not allowed that way, could I sponsor our mom, and list him as her dependent?

I am married and will soon be a PR. I'll have been a PR for ~2 years by the time I'd like to sponsor him. Either way, I'd like for him to live with me and study in Canada, but if he's a PR, he won't have to pay international tuition at least, and will be able to work anywhere.

Any advice?

His parents would both have to be deceased in order for you to be able to sponsor him - so unfortunately that's a no go. Yes - you could sponsor your parents and include him as a dependent. You'll of course need to meet the minimum income requirements before you can submit an application and will also need to enter and be selected in the parent/grandparent sponsorship lottery. It will open again next January. Note that to be included as a dependent, the application will need to reach CIC before he turns 19. So you have one shot next year.

I think from your previous posts, you and your Canadian spouse are currently living in the US?? You should be aware that in order to sponsor parents, you must meet 3 years of qualifying income earned while living in Canada.

So if you and your spouse move to Canada and start making qualifying income this year, then with income from 2017, 2018 and 2019 and waiting 1 year for final tax return, you can possibly apply to the parents lottery only in January 2021. And of course with the lottery, there is no guarantee you will be chosen.
