Hey all, I have a question.

The Oath ceremony letter states the below:

"Pursuant to paragraph 13.2(1)(b) of the Citizenship Act, if you can not appear and take the Oath at the above date, time, and place, you must contact IRCC within thirty (30) days of the date of your appointment and provide a reasonable explanation for not attending."

The paragraph 13.2(1)(b) is below and states an application will be treated as abandoned if the below occurs:

"in the case of an applicant who must take the oath
of citizenship to become a citizen, if the applicant fails,
without reasonable excuse, to appear and take the
oath at the time and at the place — or at the time and
by the means — specified in an invitation from the
Minister."

THE QUESTION:

In this scenario, what is the meaning of 'within thirty (30) days'? Does it mean 30 days before the appointment or 30 days after the appointment? For example, if someone's Oath ceremony date is April 30th and they need to change their date, do they need to contact IRCC between April 1st and April 30th or between April 30th and May 29th?

Would appreciate your input.
I think it means if you miss the oath for whatever reason, you need to contact IRCC within 30 days from the oath date.

"within thirty (30) days of the date of your appointment"

If your appointment is on day x your have until day x+30 to contact IRCC. However, it is highly recommended you contact IRCC as soon as you know you will not be able to attend. Also note that you must have a "reasonable excuse" and IRCC can ask for proof of that.

thank you! :)

Discover Canada is the only official study guide that you need to read multiple times to prepare for the test. There are online practice tests that can help you grasp the material better, but they do not represent the actual test very well.

I did my finger print in January-2018 and IRCC received it the following day through a confirmation email in response to my inquiry to them. I also did my citizenship test in February-2018 and passed the test. Since then no progress at all for myself and still in process but my wife had her status changed to decision day the day after the test.
For me now almost 7 weeks since passing the test with no progress? Is this normal?
I read someone mentioning here that I can order information details online regarding the details of processing my application I don’t remember the name but will it be useful?

December Applicant from Windsor - Row '87'.

Received letter dated March 27th requiring me to take FP for myself only (no such requirement for my spouse yet).
The letter requires me to take Electronic FP within 30 days of the date the IRCC letter was signed i.e March 27th.
I am currently out of Canada and scheduled to return on Friday April 20th (Landing at Toronto). This means that the first working day falls on Monday April 23. I plan to get appointment from RCMP for Monday April 23rd from outside Canada.

Any idea how long does RCMP take to send FP to IRCC - will it be safe to take FP on April 23rd as the IRCC deadline (take FP within 30 days of IRCC letter) is for April 26th.

Someone to please add FP requirement against my name.

RCMP normally forwards the FP directly to the particular office within 2-5 business days... once you've done the FP within the 30 days, you should be fine.

Thanks a lot - so it gives me a peace of mind to take FP on Apr 23rd upon return to Windsor remaining within IRCC deadline of April 26th.

Can someone update my status on FP requirement as well please.

No, not everyone gets asked for fingerprints. Usually a fingerprint request is sent when someone with the same or similar name/date of birth exists has committed (or has been accused of) a crime.

A request for fingerprints is really a request to use the RCMP's Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services (CCRTIS) to perform a search of the National Repository of Criminal Records, which is done based on fingerprints. If there is no result (i.e. your fingerprints don't match any of the prints in the system) then IRCC knows that you are not prohibited (see https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/become-canadian-citizen/eligibility/situtations-prevent-citizenship.html) from becoming a Canadian citizen .
Thanks. Still awaiting!
