Hi,
We applied for citizenship in Nov 2017. Subsequently, as our PR is expiring in June 2018 and we have to travel, we applied for PR renewal in February 2018.

Some people saying this can create a problem-is that true?

Don’t know why this would be a problem. I’m sure many have had to do this in the past. You could update IRCC via web form after getting your new card and I probably wouldn’t destroy the old one until after the interview.

Can't see how it will cause any issue. They mention that it takes up to 12 months, and because you applied in November 2017, it is logical that you will want to have a valid document for travel(back in to Canada that is).
btw,Some people apply for citizenship with an expired PR and they are all good also.
