First of all, at first I could not apply under old FSW system because of my NOC code that was ineligible eventhough it was in skill type B, so I changed job to work in skill type A, and planned to go to study in Canada, and passed IELTS academic. However, Express entry system was then introduced which was not at first favourable for international students in terms of getting PR after expiration of work permit (no additional points for studying in Canada, LMIA needed). My old occupation was then made elliglble, but I couldn't go under Express entry because points were extremly high at that time, that is until March 2017. When OINP started calling candidates in 2017 with points above 400 I waited to get 3 years of experience under my new NOC code - Auditor (December 2017) in order to apply for OINP , counting that 420 points would be enough. Passed IELTS again with all 8's and above in December and from January OINP has not been functioning as it used to. So It has not been such an easy journey for me, as I am sure it has not been for most of us here. I probably should have tried and applied with the old NOC. As many of as here, I am not getting younger, being 32 and loosing points on years...What changed please? Something like what
Thank you so much for wonderful elaboration on the issue. It is really inspiring. As TEF is the only way for me to improve my crs, I think I should go for it.Unfortunately I don't know another romance language but nevertheless knowing English also gives a considerable boost. I assume that if you participate in Express Entry you already have solid English knowledge or maybe it is even your mother tongue. So do not underestimates yourself by saying that you know nothing about French. In fact you already know a lot and with just some basic grammar studies you could quickly pass through the A1 and A2 levels at least on reading skills. One thing for sure, you will find it very easy to understand French grammar terms as they look and sound so similar to their English counterparts.
Personally, I haven't used some really special language learning method. I just try to do different activities and try to look at the learning process from various angles. It is this mosaic pattern that also helped me to prepare for English (another foreign language) exam and max out the points for it.
Here are some tips that worked for me:
I find no better way to master the pronunciation and to some extent the oral comprehension than just simply mimicking it. I bet you would really feel comfortable to do that only where and when no one is listening to you as this is quite embarrassing. Since I have a plan for fast mobile Internet I load one of the many youtube videos, e.g., while drive alone in car. I'm not looking at the screen but listening and repeating everything as it flows. Even if all I hear is just blah-blah-blah I still can mimic intonation and rhythm of it. At the beginning I would still recommend to watch the video first and read the text, translate what you don't know.
As for the learning of words it is related to the nature of the brain. I'm no scientist but I know that it likes steadiness and repetition. Just as it is better to go to sleep at the same time it is also good to find some patterns for language learning. Everyday no matter what in the morning when I get up I learn at least several new words. And the second thing is to put some extra effort. If I learn a word I try to also pronounce it, write it down and to mark it in the dictionary with a color marker. It is no good to read the dictionary from page A to Z, I'd rather open only the entry of a word which I need to know at the moment. For example, lets say I think about some term in my own native language and try to translate it in the new language and I fail. I just need to feel the slight pain of this failure to actually force my brain to value it more after I actually read the word in the dictionary.
I hope these tips will also help you.
I would respect you sir for your effort alone. Leave everything else asideAny predictions for next draw? CRS? I took the IELTS exam 13 times since February 2016 and finally got CLB10 last month. Sitting at 451. Was expecting the ITA in the 14th March draw but got unlucky. Any calculations that how long it will take to come down? IRCC is just challenging our patience.
Yes, it’s true 13 times. But I feel so frustrated after 14th March draw. First I tried my best to cross 440 and now what? It’s really impossible to cross 456.
@Dr. Khan you'll get ITA for sure.I would respect you sir for your effort alone. Leave everything else aside
No such requirement (67 points) for the FST stream.Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know how to make sure you are eligible for FST stream? I know that 67 points are required, however, should it say somewhere that i am eligible or I just assume that I am.
Please help me with this one
I meant FSW! Sorry..No such requirement (67 points) for the FST stream.
As long as you meet the eligibility criteria and you've calculated your score under the six selection factors you should not have any issues when creating a profile.
Thanks, I have no issues creating a profile and everything went easy. However when I am in my profile or even with my reference code it says:As long as you meet the eligibility criteria and you've calculated your score under the six selection factors you should not have any issues when creating a profile.
Your profile will say something like "Federal Skilled Worker - Met" . Also, there has never been a FSW specific draw. Thanks, I have no issues creating a profile and everything went easy. However when I am in my profile or even with my reference code it says:
"
Express Entry
Based on your answers, you appear to be eligible for Express Entry
"
however it does not say anywhere that i am eligible for FSW stream. Not sure if I am clear enough, but sometimes they do a draw only for FSW and I want to make sure I'm in, because based on my calculations i have 68 points.
I will finish my profile and see if something like this shows up.Your profile will say something like "Federal Skilled Worker - Met" . Also, there has never been a FSW specific draw.
i think it will be same points with ONLY masters or with both masters/bachelors as only highest degree is considered...I guess that description is only for the core points in education? Anyway, I can confirm that they do give you the 50 points because my husband has a bachelor's and a master's, CLB 9 and his profile has the 50 transferability points.
