Hi group,

Are there any fellow UK people here trying to immigrate to Canada?

With it being such a mine field it would be good to share hints & tips and experiences.

I’ve been tempted with using an immigration lawyer, but I’ve read mixed reviews. I think I’m only going to get 415 points at best and wondering if it is worth it?

There are many applicants from UK here. Please feel free to post your query and it will be answered by someone.

Hello, we are trying to immigrate to Canada from the UK. We applied back in July and waiting for the decision. Happy to help you with info. Also, try British Expats, lots of Brits there who have already moved, planning to move or moving back to the UK. A lot of interesting subjects being discussed.
As for your score, if you get over 400 points, then it will get you into the pool. It's not a guarantee that you'll be invited, unless they drop points requires for one of the draws, which may happen and happened last year. You can also look into provincial nomination programmes. Do you know where you'd like to move or have connections with a certain province, like relatives, previous study/work/trips?

Also, you really don't need an immigration lawyer unless your casw is a bit tricky (for example previous criminal convictions). The process is easy enough to do yourself, you just need to read up on it. This forum is very good, you can usually get your answer without even having to ask the question beause it's likely been asked before :)

That’s great thanks.
I already have a job offer with the Canadian Forces, but WES has downgraded my education so I feel I’ve hit a dead end.

I have a PG Cert, currently doing an MSc top-up but I don’t have a degree, just a university certificate and CMI level 5&6 quals. After the WES review I’ve been given a year at University, 1 undergrad semester and 2 post grad semesters. This means all I can count is 1 year at Uni (undergrad) and the rest doesn’t count. I am gutted.

Anyone ever come across something like this?

Sorry, haven't got any experience like that, hopefully someone else can be more useful.
Still, if you've done WES already, it's worth creating a profile just to see what score you get and checking if you qualify for a provincial nominee. A job offer should give you an extra 50 points. Obviously you'll have to IELTS to create a profile.
Try asking that question about WES in other chats too - the topic in this one may not be too obvious. Someone from outside the UK may have a similar experience to yours. Some people here are very knowledgeable, for example Legal Falcon. There's a thread called Thank you Legalfalcon, try asking a question. He's good at replying, got back to me pretty quick.
The main thing is that if you've decided to immigrate, just don't give up. You'll find a way to do it!

Fellow Brit here as well. I'm going down the PNP route however.

@Froggie1984 - Saw your post in the other thread. Is your application with Ottawa as well?

Hi thanks for replying. How are you getting on with the PNP? Have they approached you?
My job offer is in Ontario, but as I haven't got a 3-year degree, I don't qualify for the PNP (in that province anyway).
I'm also having to re-do my IELTS. My reading came back .5 less than required in reading, which was highly annoying.

I've already received the nomination and ITA. I'm 6 months since I've applied for PR and waiting (plus I've moved country since, which I think has added some delay).

Re-do your IELTS for sure. Are you native?

Thats great news, you must be chuffed. I'm just in the process of finishing off my degree for this Aug and I re-sat IELTS on Saturday gone (and yes I'm native, hence the frustration).
I had a Postgrad Certificate and through that would get me the 3-year degree points, but it didn't count for anything!
I am supposed to start the job in Sep 18, but that isn't looking realistic right now.

How many points did you have in the end?

I had 412. Then after PNP it gave me 1012 (the give you 600 points for PNP).

Good luck with the IELTS results. If you have a job lined up, was that not able to give you 200 points via the LMIA route?

Yeah my file is with Ottawa. FSW-O.
Good to know. Thanks

Just an update. I received PPR on 8th March.
Hey Rich, congratulations! That's really good news. We are still waiting. Coming up to 8 months now. Status changed to IP2 on 27th Feb, so really hoping it won't be much longer from here.
When and where are you planning to land?

Thanks! It should come through soon then! Good luck.

I will do a soft landing in the next 2-3 months first and have my PR card posted to my friends place in Vancouver. I plan to relocate to Saskatoon or Regina (as I'm PNP) around March/April next year.
