CLB-9 in 2nd Attempt
16 DEC 2017 1st attempt:
L-8.5
R-8.5
S-7.5
W-6.5
6 JAN 2018
L-8
R-8
S-7.5
W-7
What i learned from my Experience:
I consider my self an average skills in English language.
With preparation you can nail it.
Listening:
*Practice - Practice - Practice
I practiced atleast 50 Listening tests. initially my scores are around 27-33 only. But pushing those beyond 35 depends on your research.
Where you are going wrong...?
Never try to go for remembering next set of questions
Just read only the questions you are about to hear.
For example: If you are about to listen section 1 voice do not look for section 2.
*If you finished reading section 1 I recommend read again the complex question.
*Underline the Key words in every question. Underline in answer only if the answer is too long.
Speaking:
Greet with a smile even if they are grumpy
Be fluent
Loud enough
Practice speaking with someone who will not make fun of you...
Better don't ask them to repeat... Keep your ears open wide enough to catch every word they are saying.
Answer only to the point and don't go away from the topic.
for 2mins speech better donot stop before 120 secs. even if they stop you in the middle do not get worried thats fine. They are in hurry.
Even if you speak little mistakes donot think about those. just keep going with your flow with confidence.
Your confidence in speaking is more important.
Reading:
*Practice - Practice - Practice
Everyone will have their own strong area... out of 4 my strong area is Reading.
after 5-10 practice tests I started scoring 35+ continuously...
and It became consistent.
Be careful about TRUE/FALSE/NOT GIVEN you can easily get confused. If you did wrong in these questions thoroughly analyse where it went wrong..
try to FINISH first 2 sections in 30 mins
if you give 30 mins for last passage for sure you will score full in last passage.
Writing:
* WRITE- WRITE- WRITE
I wrote at-least 30 essays and 30 letters before writing exam.
Initially i use to read essays on websites but i failed to rewrite...
So better be your self.
40 -45 mins for part-2 essay. with in that 10 mins just to think about the topic and noting down points as outline.
VOCAB: will give you that extra mile.... My style of writing essay in 1st attempt and 2nd attempt is pretty much same but someone suggested me use at-least 10-12 tough words in essay so that examiner will check the dictionary for that. I tried atleast 5-6 such words in my essay. So better keep adding good words in your vocab in a month you will feel so good... Grab any new word that you comeacross in online or newspaper...
Try to understand how many paras to write - How many points you want to discuss - how you want to conclude
15-20 mins for letter is enough. but you should be aware of different types of letters questioned.
Especially beginning and ending for formal & Informal letters.
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
Practice all Cambridge practice tests available. I guess those are around 35-40 tests.
Practice at a stretch: 1st Listening, Reading, Writing. This will give you mock test kind of feeling.
Practice only in quiet area and do not get distract while taking practice test.
What ever your performance in practice test it wont be better than it in real exam. So better maintain consistency.
Do not loose hope. Initially it is hard to start once you start involving... you will love the process...
At the end
CLB - 9 Gives you sense of Achievement...
