find a basic job soon on landing

I am a recent PR and moving to Canada in March. Can I be advised which city is a good place to drop first up?

I am looking to do basic survival level jobs from the start. And during the course look for more long term job. I do not want to further set back my limited capital which will be already set back by airline costs and other moving costs. So want to start asap.

Which city and state are good for newcomers with regard to good salary, growing economy but reasonable cost of living? Are Edmonton and Calgary any good, which others? What about the small east coast states?

And how best to find a basic job to survive like a store clerk or gas station attendant? How best to go about it so I can find within 1-2 weeks of landing?

you cannot have everything.
Either you will have reasonable rental price at a cost of less job opportunities.
Or higher living costs but more jobs around.

You are asking wrong question. You should be asking which city is the best for your specialisation (I mean whatever you want to do in long term).
As survival jobs are almost everywhere.
As for survival jobs is all you need to walk around the area and check openings directly in shops or visit few personal agencies that are hiring contractors.

I agree survival jobs are fairly common, even in smaller cities, and so is cost of living generally. However. More often than not prospects for better jobs in smaller cities are very limited. If you are looking to the future you will likely have to choose between struggle now, and better later (big city) or struggle not and quite possible later as well.

Small cities offer a good life if you like small cities but they have their challenges.

Thanks guys, My backgrounds is in Oil and gas. That is why I am inclined towards Edmonton and Calgary as Alberta has a substantial oil based industry.

I thought the Easternmost province, Newfoundland, has a substantial off shore oil based industry.

Weather in NF vs AB is about the same. NF probably slightly worse. Bigger challenge in NF is there are no decent sized cities. Small towns / cities only. If you like city life, consider this careful. NF cost of living might be a little lower, but it is an island so relies heavily on imports, which increases cost. Have a look at New Brunswick as well. I believe there are some opportunities there as well. Weather is slightly better.

Also Northern Ontario has certain Oil and Gas opportunities and so does Yukon. Anyway in his case will be most likely stationed in smaller city close to the industry. (unless he will run for one of the headquarter openings). But yes, Alberta is the obvious choice there.

no, im in maritime sector, however looking for changeover to upstream
