I need some information.
I landed in canada on 3rd march 2015 as permanant reaident with family and stayed till 22 august 2015.
During this time my wife gace birth to a child.
We had to leave due to some peraonal reasons and have come back to Canada on 26 november 2017 for good.
We have now re-applied for healtg cards, however it has been couple of days and we have not recieved cards (applied on 27th november 2017

Based on my calculation you stayed less than 183 days when you were in Alberta in 2015 and used the health services. That would have made you inelligible for coverage. I would be concerned that you will now be charged for the services you used in 2015.

Thank you for your response Buletruck. I really appreciate it. I already call AHCIC and they said if I submitted my application for work or study permit, I can call them and give them the reference or receipt from cic and they will give me 90 days.

You indicated that you don't think your PGWP will be approved. You may want to ask what happens if you don't get approved. I assume the person you spoke thought this was just a formality. Always think it is good to get all the info possible.

That would have made you inelligible for coverage. I would be concerned that you will now be charged for the services you used in 2015.

Since you have re-applied, it is possible that they may be reviewing your file and may request further information from you as to when you left Canada. If they determine you didn't meet the residency requirements for coverage, they may bill you for the cost of your child's delivery.

HOPE you and your baby is doing well.. I would like to know more about your case after landing in canada. Am also planning to land in Calgary when my wife is 6 and half month pregnant. Although we have a CoPR we are bit skeptical on the expenses to come once we are there. Can u pls share how much did it cost for you apart from the health coverage? Did u pay anything outside the health coverage?

You have not to worry. The Alberta Health is superb and you will take only a week or so to make the Health Card. When arrived you need to apply for health card immediately at the nearest registry.. Once arrived, you need to see family doctor as ask him/her about the pregenecy and she/he will arrange your visit to gaenacologit....and afterwards its easy. You have to pay nothing for the delivery as PR. Good luck!

You will be covered. Note that you can't just come to Alberta for the immediate health coverage and leave after giving birth. Your wife must live in Alberta for at least 6 months to be eligible for coverage.

We actually got Copr in november and pregnancy was something which was unexpected and happened afterwards... We were already prepared to settle in Calgary and i even registered with APEGA being a mechanical engineer. We will be there till our baby gets 3 months old when we return home for baptism. So we will be there in Calgary for more than 6 months..

Not sure how it works for babies but would think that they baby also needs to be a resident for 6 months to get coverage. You should verify the residency requirements which are often more strict during the first year.

If you don't have extended benefit plan you will have to pay for any medication you are prescribed.

this 6 month is anytime within first one year i guess... ??
