Hi,

I have a question regarding work experience under CEC.

So I am doing an internship which is for one year (Title: Chemical Engineer Intern) and its full-time as well as paid. Also, I am on PGWP.

My question is: Does it count as a work experience under CEC? I couldn't find this title under NOC list.

Any suggestions or answers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

To echo DelPiero, it should count as long as it's NOC 0, A, or B. Don't search in the NOC List using the job title. Put in other relevant key terms (e.g. Chemical Engineering), until you find an NOC with job duties that match yours. It's not about the job title; only the job duties matter.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I already checked that title though as well as checked the job duties (which completely matched with my job duties). Unfortunately, it also says one should be ''licensed engineer'' which I am not and it takes forever to get Engineering licence in Ontario.

Any suggestions or advice please.

You do not need to meet the 'employment requirements' in order to claim an NOC. You just need to prove (through an employment reference letter that details your job duties and responsibilities), that you have actually been performing those duties for the time period stated.

Read it again, that is not what it says.

It says the license is required to "approve engineering drawings and reports and to practice as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)". If you are not claiming to be a P.Eng. and your job duties and responsibilities do not include approving engineering drawings and reports, then you do not need a license.

P.Eng. is a regulated profession, however, and if you claimed that title or that responsibility, you WOULD have to demonstrate that you meet the requirements. The NOC covers much more than just P Eng, however.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Just you know, my job is related to research and lab work. I am wondering if I will be okay to categorize myself a Chemical Engineer title under NOC?

Hello cherry Paul. I have to agree with @jes_ON. You have to be careful with this. Is the NOC you are claiming under 2134? If not you will need to prove that you have the licensure and educational credentials to perform the job under provincial regulations since it is a regulated profession. I have seen cases that get delayed because of this. ://www.jobbank.gc.ca/report-eng.doarea=9219&lang=eng&noc=2134&action=final&ln=n&s=3&source=6#RegulatedOccupation

Hi,

Yes it's NOC 2134. My job duties match with this though except license licence requirement.

Also, when my employer hired me so they didn't ask me for EIT or P.Eng.

Thanks

OK. So I spoke to my manager who is an engineer. He states that in order to even get P.Eng you need four years of work experience under your belt and also pass a legal and ethics exam before you can even apply for the licensure. I am not an immigration official so the advice I am going to provide you will have to take with a grain of salt. However, if I was in your position with the intent to claim the NOC 2134, I would also include a letter of explanation. It should clearly state that you haven't received the licensure as yet since you are currently an intern. The internship experience will count towards attaining your licensure in the long run. I want to believe that your employer has legally employed you under the circumstance. Therefore once you are able to provide the reference letter indicating that you have been performing the job duties under the aforementioned NOC and the letter of explanation you may be able to prove your case.

You can use the NOC if the job duties/responsibilities match, just do not claim to be a Professional Engineer (P.Eng). RE which title to use, use your actual job title - it does not need to match the listed examples.
