Below is from CIC wbsite:-

If you need a police certificate from a country or territory and:
  • are currently living there, or received the police certificate before leaving, the police certificate must be issued within six months before you apply.
  • have lived there in the past, the police certificate must be issued after you last lived in that country or territory.
My question is for Police certificate issued for "have lived there in the past" is there any validity like should be issued within six months or not?

List your citizenship as USSR until the collapse, then as Ukrainian. To make sure, add a short note to your application. They will understand.

It can't hurt to list the PR Card, but some people argue it is not necessary.

I made a trip to Germany (good question for spyfy ;) and then on the way back to Canada, I had my transit in London, UK. Since the transit was more than 12 hours, I asked the immigration to let me in without a visa. I entered the city and stayed for 14 hours (I got a 24 hour entry permit in the airport). The itenarry was like from 3rd to 7th of March during which from 3rd to 6th I was in Germany and from 6th to 7th I was in UK and then back to Canada.

In the online physical calculator should I mention this stay in London separately than my German trip? Or, should I just mention the German trip and in the explanation mention the reason for the UK stamp? In the end the number of days absent in either case will be the same.

If I have a 3 year Schengen visitor visa (it is a short term visa which only allows me to visit for up to 90 days but no work or study rights), do I have to mention this anywhere in the CIT0002E?

Police Certificate

In what case do I need a police certificate?

If you spent more than 183 days in a single foreign country in the last four years before applying.
If, for example, you spent 100 days in France and 90 days in China, you don't need to provide police certificates for either country.

What if I have been to a country for more than 183 days but not in a single visit?
You still need to provide a police certificate. If for example you went to France five times and each time you spend 40 days there, you spent a total of 200 days in France and need a police certificate.
Hi spyfy,

are you completely sure about interpretation of 183 days outside Canada? I am asking because it would be a huge hassle for me to get PCC from Kuwait where I stayed 4 months in 2017 and 2.5 months in 2016 which makes over 183 days in last 4 years.
Will it work if I submit my application and in a cover letter explain that I will submit my PCC from Kuwait in next few months?

Yes, I am sure about this. Please also refer to the very helpful examples in the application guide
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0002ETOC.asp
Just search for the word "France" in the test (because they use France as the example country) and you will find the example.

Regarding your second question: You must provide a good explanation why you can't provide the PCC. Saying "It will take me a while to get the PCC" is not a good explanation. A good explanation would be if it would be impossible for you to retrieve the PCC at the moment (e.g. I assume that these days it's very tricky to get a Syrian PCC).

No, you don't have to list it. If it were a visa that allowed you to study, work, or live with your spouse in the Schengen zone (etc etc) then you would need to list it. A mere visitor visa is not relevant.

I hope you enjoyed your trip! :)

You visited several countries during your trip and Germany was your first destination. So this is what you should do:

- Make a single entry in the Calculator
- From March 3 (double check that in fact you left Canada on the 3rd and not on the 2nd, think of the overnight flight!)
- To March 7
- As destination, pick "Germany"
- In the reason field you write "Vacation in Germany, used layover on the return flight to visit London, UK"

One box is for you.

The other box is for your child who only has to sign if he/she is 14 years or older. If they are younger, leave it blank.

For name of employer and name of contact you can write N/A. Just mention "Housewife" in the form.
