Confusion regarding Ready for Visa email

I've received an email today entitled Ready for Visa which seems to outline the process for obtain a COPR howeve our myCIC account and online application have not been updated.

We're outland applicants and neither my accompanying spouse or myself require a visa to travel to Canada and we've had no change in relationship/circumstances since applying. Therefore, it seems like we just need to send photos to the High Comission in London and upload copies of the visa email and passport bio pages to myCIC.

However on the online application there is nowhere to upload any additional documents. Is this normal? The passport bio pages were already uploaded to the online application anyway so I just need to upload a copy of the email but I've checked our submitted application a few times and there doesn't appear to be any way to do this.

I'm in the exact same position, having got PPR first thing this morning and there's nowhere to upload documents. I read a thread on BritishExpats forum that you can just send all the documents in the same envelope to the High Commission address in London as they understand that myCIC doesn't always update and give you the necessary fields. That's what I'm going to be doing.

Are you sure? Because it states several times in their email that documents from online applicants "must be uploaded to your MyCIC account". You've applied from London so I'm presuming you're a non-visa national, right?

Yeah, I'm a UK citizen so in the same boat as you, needing no visa. I've tried calling the High Commission but the automated message says that they don't take phone enquiries and you have to email ldnimmigration@international.gc.ca if you have any queries.

This is the BE thread that I'm referring to: http://britishexpats.com/forum/immigration-citizenship-canada-33/ppr-visa-office-898799/

You could always save all of your documents electronically as well as sending them to the address provided in your PPR and then send them to IRCC in a CSE to be sure.

Thanks for the advice, but if you're from a visa-exempt country the "passport request" letter is a bit of a misnomer as you're not actually required to send any passport.

British citizens and some others don't need to send original passports just photocopies of the bio page (which is lucky in my case since I need to travel overseas in about a month from now).

I presume the COPR for a non-visa national is just like the LOI they issue for work permits. I had one of those a few years ago when I last lived in Canada and it was just an email that I printed and took with me to the airport.

Thanks for the advice, but if you're from a visa-exempt country the "passport request" letter is a bit of a misnomer as you're not actually required to send any passport.
UPDATE YOUR APPLICATION

· Marriage or common-law union, divorce, annulment, legal separation;

· Death of the sponsor, the principal applicant or any accompanying family member;

· Birth or adoption of a child, including grandchildren born to dependent children;

· You, the principal applicant, or any of your family members have been charged or convicted of a criminal offence.

DETERMINE IF YOU NEED TO SUBMIT YOUR PASSPORT(S)

· Determine if you are holder of passport(s) from countries whose citizens need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to travel to Canada, by checking this website:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas-all.asp.

If you are holder of passport(s) from countries whose citizens need a visa to travel to Canada, you will need to submit the passport for you and for each accompanying family member. Your passport(s) should be valid for at least 6 monthsand have at least two blank pages. If a child is included on your passport, you must have one blank page per accompanying child. Please note that you STILL need to submit the passport even if:

o You have a valid Canadian temporary residence visa.

o You are a permanent resident of the U.S.A AND holder of passport from countries whose citizens need a visa to travel to Canada.

· If you are holder of passport(s) from countries whose citizens need an eTA to travel to Canada or a holder of passport(s) from the United States, you will need to submit one photocopy of the photo page and any pages containing amendments of the passport for you and for each accompanying family member. Please do not send your original passport(s). Your passport(s) should be valid for at least 6 months.

Please note that these instructions apply to passport holders from Mexico as well, who, as of December 1, 2016 , do not require a visa to enter Canada.

***Please note that Confirmation of Permanent Residence and permanent residence visas cannot be issued to holders of Diplomatic, Official or Military passports. You must have an ordinary passport.***

PREPARE YOUR DOCUMENTS

1. Passport(s) OR photocopy(ies) of passport(s), as explained in Step 2.

2. Two (2) photos of yourself and of each accompanying family member. See our specifications at www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/pdf/5445EB-e.pdf

3. One pre-paid return envelope so that we can return your passport(s) and Confirmation of Permanent Residence documents. See Step 4 for instructions regarding the return envelope.

4. The completed and signed Annex A or B listing your current mailing address.

SUBMIT YOUR DOCUMENTS

Wow. That's crazy. I have to be honest, I'm really surprised they accepted my application. While everything in there was 100% genuine it was far from being anywhere close to perfect or airtight.

I've had an email from the local High Commission who are happy to receive printed copies along with our photographs. Probably the easiest option for everyone really.
