Hi everyone.

I have a scenario that I need your help with.

My Danish girlfriend is looking to move to Canada so we can be together she is planning to do this in January 2018 (i am a Canadian citizen, she is Danish). She is 29, and a physiotherapist in Denmark.

Few things of note:
- we have exhausted our Working Holiday Options
- although we have dated for 2.5 yrs we have not lived together for 12 consecutive months so common law is out of the question as well

Now my question

Should she apply using Express Entry route? (If so we could use some help haha);

Or should we wait for her to come to Canada in January, get married, and apply for spousal sponsorship in January

Which route is faster/easier?

If we apply for Sponsorship when i am in canada and she is in Denmark. Can she still visit me in Canada? And vice versa, is she comes to Canada in January and we apply, is she allowed to go back home at all?

Funds, if her parents send her funds can so it gets up to $12,300 CDN would that be ok ?

She can also come here, get married and be sponsored as your spouse. That will be the faster / easier route.

Is an inland or outland sponsorship faster?

I know the benifit with inland would be that she could get an open work permit, however she needs to go back to Denmark in the Summer for some weddings. Would she be allowed to do so if application was still being processed?

Normally with Inland you aren't allowed to leave the country while the application is processing. Although for emergencies exceptions can be made.

The normal processing time for Outland is 12 months although often times it can be less than the 12 months.

The reason for leaving is irrelevant, emergency or not.

When returning back to Canada the risk is identical, it's entirely up to the CBSA officer whether to grant entry or not. If for any reason entry is refused, the inland app would be cancelled. CBSA usually doesn't care why you left Canada, they are only looking at your reasons for entering.

Thanks for the info! I thought I remembered reading that something such as the death of a close family member they are normally more lenient. But I guess that it still carries a big risk. Good to know.

If you head over to the Inland threads, you'll notice that countless people have left Canada and returned with zero repercussions. As long as you satisfy the following 'criteria' you should face no problems:

1. The trip is couple weeks long at best, not months long.
2. Your partner has valid status at the time of re-entering the country. She should carry evidence of the sponsorship application in process.
3. You, the sponsor, are a Canadian citizen. If you are a PR, you shouldn't leave the country
4. You must not have come to Canada as a refugee if you plan to accompany you partner back home.
