Hi guys, I see that the photo specification for citizenship application has changed on August 23. It used to be 35 * 45 mm, but now it is 50 * 70 mm (exactly the same as passport photo specification). Has anybody else noticed this? Can anybody please confirm this was an intended change and not a mistake?

I revisited CIC website and the frame of photo changed to passport size. I did last week and have to retake it. Costco keeps my film and reprint it for me? Thanks for your information

Hi guys, I applied for citizenship and signed my application on Aug 23, 2017 (mailed application on Aug 23). However, my photos were taken prior to Aug 23 and as a result the photos are not according to the new specifications. I had mailed these in the morning of Aug 23 and I had no idea that the photo specifications would change. Any suggestions as to what I should do now? thanks for your help

I would personally suggest to contact CIC on this one since you have a marginal scenario. I have been trying to contact them myself today all day long to confirm that the change was intended, my call still in the queue.

Okay so I just got off the phone with CIC and they confirmed that the new size (50 mm * 70 mm) was indeed intended.

Did you by any chance ask them about what happens if someone has already sent the application with the old spec photos? I signed and sent my application on August 8, and it was delivered on August 10. I haven't received AOR yet, so I'm hoping they don't return my application.

Sorry didn't ask them that. However, I believe since you signed it on August 8, which is earlier than the change date of August 23, you should be fine.

Thanks for the input everyone. I did call CIC and was told that it is up to the visa officer to decide if the application should be accepted or rejected. I was told to wait as at this point I cannot do anything further.

I thought I would share this so that everyone is aware and in case the situation comes up again in future. For now fingers crossed:)

Just to let you guys know in 2016 3 people from my family applied for citizenship and used 50 by70mm and the files were never retured. In august 2017 i applied for myself and used 50 by 70mm. Till to date i used to think that passport specification is same as citizenship specs. I hope i get my aor.

Was name and address of photographer mentioned (in the back of photos) in both the cases? If yes, who did that, you or photographer?

Nearly every place (from photographer, to camera store, to Costco and London Drugs) that has the set up to take citizenship /PR/ passport photos will have a stamp that they use to stamp the back and then date the photo. There is room on the stamp for you to then fill out your name etc as requested in the application notes.

you can write on your own. There no specific note about it to be done from photographer or studio
Thanks guys for taking time to reply. Will write all the info as I did with everything so far visa, PR, etc. FYI, I will be doing my photo myself (costs not more than 20 cents for 6 photos, may be 4 this time). However, never before I encounter to put the photographer's name and address.
