Ok, definitely not an option!
You see people on here who have attempted IELTS 3, 4 or even 5 times and display those scores like a badge of honour. I never really understood clearly why, but now I do. Good scores are damn hard to achieve, even to native english speakers and secondly they make such an, almost illogical, difference to your CRS. It's crazy the impact they have.

Wear them with pride!

yeah....yesterday I had this conversation back home with my brother...
I managed CLB10 in my first attempt after coming back from the test believing myself would have scored around 6 in writing and maybe 7 in speaking...almost had paid the fees for the next attempt before something made me wait for the result...& CLB10 it was :)...
after coming to this forum and understating how painstaking it is at times to get the desired score for the test,I feel I was lucky to have got it done in the first attempt ...now I'm bit scared to give a retest and score that good,as my nerves will pull me down as now ielts seems like the chinese wall...;)

I've realized that if I don't get invited before completing my upcoming degree, I will need to take IELTS again despite getting a CLB10 last year and being a native speaker... Oh well, that's a worry for next year, lol.

I think you're going to get invited and get your PR sooner than you think! So sit tight, be prepared to be amazed. :D

Please forgive me for asking a newbie question on the wrong thread, but my friends are all here on this one.

As you know I'm am now at 407 CRS. If my wife resits the IELTS and actually listens this time (forgive me darling if you're reading this! :p), then she might get full marks and with me as primary applicant we will have 409. Every point counts so we might pursue this avenue.

We both are very similar points wise:
  • Both speak english as first language and therefore should be able to get full marks here
  • Both hold a Masters recognised by Canada
  • Both are IT Managers and have over 6 years experience in last 10 years, so same NOC
Where we differ is age. She is two years younger than me.

If she sat the IELTS again, obtained full marks and we reverse who the primary applicant is then our points will jump from 407 (as it is now) to 429 due to her getting more points in the age category.

My wife has been a full time mum for the last 18 months to look after our kids and we do not want this to change. Indeed when we move to Canada we will need her to be a full time mum since we won't have a family support network. We don't want to try and fool immigration officials and say my wife will work, because that's not true. I will be the one who finds a job and works.

Now for my question. My understanding is that if we were to switch primary applicants, raise our score to 429 and obtain an ITA, then it would be perfectly legal and above board for my wife pursue this ITA with the intention of not working. If fact, by my reading I'm not sure that the direct ITA route really asks any questions about who is going to work or in what profession.

Am I correct?
You can always make her the PA and get an ITA.
The post ita time and by the time u land in Canada , which u surely will with the jump in the score, the kid would be around 2.
There is no such specification in CIC, to my knowledge, that PA has to start working immediately after landing.
PA can work anytime after landing. They just want to be sure that you have enough funds to support yourself and family for one year.
If you have enough funds then as far as CIC is concerned , even if both of you are not working and staying home, not a problem.
Just change the PA and increase your acceptance chances.

You're absolutely correct! Nothing obligates her to start working.

Me too wanted to do the change, because my husband is 2 years younger than me, but then he needs to re-take IELTS since he got in writing 5.5, which is not enough. If we did it, our CRS would be 431 with him being primary applicant. We will wait another month or so and if nothing happens with cut off we will change tactics.
