Need to start studying IELTS

Hi,

I am planning to emigrate to Canada from India on the basis of express entry system. As part of this process, I got to know from various threads and discussions that I need to have IELTS score handy before applying. In order to do that, I need to start preparing for IELTS for, myself and my wife as soon as possible.
Can somebody throw some light on what is the best way of studying for IELTS, how long the whole process takes place, if I want to get the coaching, what all the various options available etc.

Please note that my wife wouldn't be working there when we immigrate. She would be a housewife at least until the time we become citizens.
